I'm an Open University business student. This book has been a real eyeopener. The WalMart principles can be adopted by most British businesses to maximise profits. I felt really satisfied reading this book. If you think this book is about American hype that is specific to American culture, you are wrong. I'm serious. Anyone who is interested in starting a business or improving their business, should read this book. I really love the WalMart principles. WalMart is aggressive in protecting and serving its customers. Now what's wrong with that? Nothing really. I tell you, get this book and listen to the the first three chapters. Find out what how Sam Walton rose to meteoric success in business. This book is generous in sharing Sam's core values and principles. This book could be worth several thousand times the cost of it. Whether and how you use it is what matters. I'm thankful to Don Soderquist for sharing so much with us.
Wal-Mart does well because people shop there. They obviously know how to keep customers coming back for more. I found this book a great review of the basics of retailing that are so easy to forget when your running a business. A little more detail would've been nice though.

In all honesty I was disappointed with this book. I thought I would learn the entire history of how Wal-Mart was created. Instead of got a book on what they call "The Wal-Mart Way".
Wal-Mart has 10 rules by which they run their massive business. Most of them sound too "apple pie" for me. If you believe the author, then we have a case for "nice guys" coming in first.
Look elsewhere if you want a history of Wal-Mart.

Lots of questions can be asked from the story that are not answered and it certainly paints walmart in a very good light, but it was informative and interesting.
the book is a simplistic yet interesting story how walmart achieved their success. if you are in business you will find this to be an incredible story on how a company can achieve and maintain the success on such a large scale. whether you like or dislike walmart it truly is an incredible story and the author paints a picture how it was achieved in a very humble manner.
People don't like Wal Mart and I find that hard to believe. Small business can still make it with a wal mart in town. If a small business is good it can survive big retailers. I am from the home town of wal mart and it still has small businesses and small retail stores that have been in business for years. I believe that wal mart provides a good service for people and if someone does not like the store they don't have to shop there. Just my two cents
