"The strength of this book is that it is a straightforward motivational tool. He provides the brutally direct truth about the hard work it takes to become free of debt, and his directness is a great part of the book's charm." (Publishers Weekly)
Yes, This book has so many key points and very helpful.
The way that Dave jokes and has a sense of humor throughout the book. And it is all right down to the point.
The story is narrated in a way that almost puts you in the scene.
Yes I wanted a book that I could get the information that I wanted in one setting without wasting any time. This nook is it. I would recommend this book to anyone that is in need of financial help or anyone just striding for a better financial way of life or to fine tune finances.
Dave tells it how it is. I purchased this book for educational purposes only. I though that we were doing things correctly now as we were in some financial trouble years ago and just wanted to see if we could fine tune anything further to help us out now. The entire book is filled with great pointers and ways to build a secure financial future. It helped us fine tune our finances and we are now finally on our way to financial success. Freedom! All I can say is, I wish that I would have read this book ten years ago or before I started making money because it would of had an huge impact on my future financial decisions. Great Book!
No, I haven't...this is my first introduction to Dave and his work.
I have started putting his plan to use and have paid off 3 credit cards this month! So excited and it really brought to my attention the things I have been doing wrong due to the myths I believed to be accurate!
His energy and belief is obvious in this Audible selection. Easy to listen to and easy to follow. I thank God everyday, that I had the sense to purchase this, it is truly what our family needed! Thanks Dave! I am a new fan for life! xoxo
I do like the book very much. I think it is a very smart plan and I will implement it. I DON'T like the way Dave Ramsey reads it though. It's like he's yelling at you the whole time.
This is a great book to use as a tool to get on the right path. Have the hard and audible copy. It's good to get you on the right track but you mush apply the common sense principles (obviously) in order to be successful. does a good breakdown of of various areas for money management but takes some time to get to the nitty gritty...
I do not have the print version, but I found the audio to paint an excellent picture.
"Bob and Sarah have a negative nett worth yet these people looked good, travelled well and dressed in high fashion - Bob's mom is very impressed because they are obviously doing well."
"Bob and Sarah are broke and desperate and no one knows it, not only does no one know it but everyone thinks the opposite is true"
Dave has a powerful voice and his passion about the subject comes out strongly, and makes it difficult to take a pause.
Yes it did - Intense Fear!
This is the best personal finance book ever!
But as they say, "the teacher arrives when the student is ready"
I like his enthusiasm but disliked it when he used his mocking "I'm an idiot" tone of voice.
Debt is not a tool. -- Basically MAYBE only use it for buying a home.
It is a good book and good advice for the majority of people out there. You should be able to gain wealth by following his steps (so long as you have an income). There isn't necessarily any bad advice but I don't like his total hatred of credit cards -- credit cards are useful if you budget to use them and just pay your balance every month. I understand a slight majority abuses credit cards (I think he said 60% carry balances) but for those who don't they are definitely useful. I love the free checked bags from my Delta card and $50 gift card rewards I get from my other credit card.
I loved this audio book. And I enjoyed the fact that it was narrated by Dave himself. He brings a passion and motivation to his teaching that no one else could.
This book has changed my life. Through open and honest self evaluation I've discovered I'm my biggest money problem.. I like Dave's no nonsense, honest way of presenting a different way to view my life and my money. I'm fired up and I will be calling Dave with the "I'm debt free" yell.
Good luck to anyone that chooses to go down this path and don't give up.
Totally addicted to books: written or spoken! To read or to listen...? Both please!
It is a good way for the "average joe" to be set for retirement. Makes sense.
I am an IT contractor by night and a real estate investor by day, learning to reinvent myself with discipline, integrity, and determination.
I would listen to it again so I can really dive into the concepts. Sometimes it is best for me to write things down and remind myself on a daily basis.
No I haven't.
The different concepts and sterotypes that many people believe.
I love Dave Ramsey and all of the advice and information he has to offer. I love that he doesn't sugar coat it, he tells it like it is.
"Thank you Dave Ramsey"
This is a quick update to those in need of hope. I wrote a review back in June last year and now wish i could give this book more than 5 stars!!! We are now debt free, thanks to Dave's principles layed out clearly in this book.
"Good Sound System...."
...but Dave Ramsey's narration i found annoying. It's all well and good that he performed in such a way as to make the listener feel like he was talking to one personally, but given the choice I'd rather he just read the text up without the drama...
Whatever the case, I would definitely recommend to anyone needing a good sound financial system....
"A Common Sense Approach to Handling Money."
I've listened to this book a few times now and Dave is clearly passionate about teaching others that it is possible to live a debt free life. I used to think that I was quite good with my money (not that I had much) but this tough, common sense guide revealed to me that I could have done so much better. Although, no longer in my youth Dave also makes it clear that it's not too late to start.
It was really helpful practical guide to personal finance really accessible and potentially life transforming. Give it a go I did and loved it
"A must - Educational, engaging and fun"
I have hear about Dame Ramsey before and now listened to this rather short book and I was really satisfied. Dave's voice, ideas, processes to get better with money are life changing, so motivational, definitely must listen for everyone. I strongly recommend, I have enjoyed every minute of it!
So easy to follow.
Personal stories, Dave himself.
Don't only listen but put in action ;-)
It took me a while to get over the slightly aggressive American tone - I guess passion would be a better word than agressive. But the concept is simple and makes perfect sense.
"Helped us get in shape"
I found out about Dave Ramsey about seven months ago (December 2012) and from the first podcast I downloaded for his radio talk show, I knew this guy was different. He is genuine, honest, informed and tells it like it is. My husband and I had debt of about $28,000 which we werent too concerned about but had tried to pay off and somehow no matter what we did it just never seemed to go away. We enrolled for FPU online around March 2013 and wow, what a class!!! We decided to pay off all our debt but for some reason stalled. I then went ahead and bought this book (audio) about a month after we'd completed FPU, something about the way he explained debt and just how restrictive it was clicked deeper. I was on a coach on the way to work, by the time we arrived I had a tear in my eye and knew that I knew that I knew that we were paying our debt off that day. Fortunately we had the money to clear all our debt and just went ahead and did it. I cannot describe the feeling. Walking around debt free is totally liberating. I would never have done it if it werent for FPU or this book. For some reason we thought earning 0.5% in a savings account would beat the 7-10% interest rates we were paying on the debt. We just hadnt done the Maths. We have now changed our habits and are already living like no one lese so later we get to live like no else.
Thank you Dave Ramsey and may God bless and your wonderful family for the wonderful work you are doing to enlighten those of us who had somehow gotten degrees in D.U.M.B.
"Just Buy it"
