"The strength of this book is that it is a straightforward motivational tool. He provides the brutally direct truth about the hard work it takes to become free of debt, and his directness is a great part of the book's charm." (Publishers Weekly)
It was great to listen to...I really enjoyed his enthusiasm and tone throughout. It was very 'stop BSing & et's get down to business' and that's just what I needed. and now it's time to apply what I learned. The 'B' word frightens me but I know I can't do this without a budget so her goes...
I agree with many of the principals in theory but I would encourage everyone to take his advise with a grain of salt. There is no blanket solution to everyone's financial issues/goals. Take his ideas and add your own touch that works for you.
Also, I disliked the testimonials that are added.. The sound is off, they feel forced, the audio quality is low, and they detract from the flow of the book.
This book left me hopeful and eager to become debt-free! Ramsey speaks candid and honestly. It is not a quick get rich book. In fact it seems very hard but doable. I am very hopeful that I will "live like no other " soon!
When the book first started I was a little surprised on how aggressive he was. It was more then usual.
I love listening to Dave Ramsey's show so I expected a little bit of gruffness in his voice but the beginning chapter was a little bit ridiculous. Towards the middle of the audio book, he calmed down and began to perform more like he does on his show.
Don't get me wrong, it was a great book, it has great concepts that seemed to have been forgotten as generations went by and we should all should be reminded of. I just wished he didn't over act in the first chapter. It didn't deter me and I finished the book, however I feel that this may be turning some potential listeners away.
Try this audio book, it does calm down and you will be able to get some good budgeting and money handling reminders from it.
As I listened to the audio book I was simple amazed and became motivated to do a total money Makerover. I've always known, in order to achieve financial success I needed to change the way I manage money. I now have begun a trail and I've invite my entire family to achieve this total money Makerover plan to wealth and stability. Thanks for writing such a wonderful book.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is struggling to manage from payday to payday. While it is obvious the answer to debt is not to spend money Dave provides a strategy that is easy to follow and addresses the motivational issues.
The Baby steps are very clear and made me think about my attitude towards money
Angry, impassioned, aggressive
I am following his money makeover advice. I understand people disagree on the investment side of the book and am a long way off that yet. Building wealth based on getting rid of debt and then saving makes sense to me.
I would have awarded this book 5 stars if Dave had spoken the way he does in his radio programme. I am ambivalent about the anger in his voice. It is great that he is impassioned but almost comes across as talking down. If I had not heard him on the radio I think it could have put me off a good message from a good man.
