Helpful in All Areas of Life

I have loved watching Tonya Reiman on her frequent television appearances, discussing the body language of celebrities and politicians, and I'm so glad that she has written this book. Learning the techniques of exuding confidence and making a great first impression are essential for career growth...and being able to know when someone is lying is a valuable skill to possess. I loved listening to her and highly recommend this audiobook.

Better in print

Great information. Straight forward. But better as a reference manual in print than an audible book. I would give this 4 stars in print, but 3 stars in audio.

Waste of time!

I've studied human behavior and other human aspects for some time! I only have a BA. I'm no fancy, expensive degree holding, "EXPERT" but, I'm confident in most of my analyzations. I do know, you don't need a degree to understand most body language!!! Tonya gives herself way too much credit, which most people with expensive bull Sh@# degree's do!!! But, socity validates them by listening!!! Truth is in this case, If your human, you've already read this book! Even if you're a so, called, (Body Language EXPERT) you'll never be absolutely sure what vibe a persons giving off. A funny smirk, a twitchy leg? They may just need to find a restroom. I could start a widget advisory business and buffalo everyone!! Who'd be wiser. As long as your good at stating the obvious, people will agree and think you know what you're talking about!!! We analyze people every day!!!! We consciously and unconsciously analyze folks and react without missing a beat!!! Most of us just don't waste our time writing about it!!! Someone looks at you mean, you punch there nose, or keep away, no secret! She blabs about a young professional woman who gets no respect from her male subordinates. She finds out this women comes to work dressed like a wh-re and teaches her not to!!! And credits herself for helping her!!! Wow, seems pretty obvious to me!!!! Act and look like a wh-re!!! Get treated like one!!! I guess, do to human nature it's just fun to think you're figuring it out. Real fun when stupid, impressionable people pay you for it!!! My advise, save your money, go to the mall or a crowded (Or not so crowded) place and watch for a little while. You'll learn all you need to know and not have a huge collage loan to pay off, AND, your book will probably be more informational!!! This Just reinforces the point I try to make to people . A beautiful lamb skin degree, framed over the fire place, from an expensive, Ivy league school isn't worth anything compared to true, life experience.

A manual on body language!

Where does The Power of Body Language rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This ranks as my first audio book ever so its the 'best' so far! I'm very pleased i found it useful & entertaining.

What other book might you compare The Power of Body Language to and why?

I compare it to books in the 'power and influence' genre of nonfiction so books such as 'The 48 Laws of Power', 'The Art of Seduction', and 'How to Read People Like a Book' come to mind. Tonya's book gears me toward direct and indirect use of personal power. Its an excellent primer on being both observed and observer of situations, proactive and subtle. The other books i mention are just examples of this field but this book also adds to your repertoir by helping you use your senses in practiced and practical manners. These other books are rooted in descriptive examples but this book is rooted in prescriptive action.

What did you learn from The Power of Body Language that you would use in your daily life?

I learned that a most valuable thing you can do to influence people is to make your body language 'effortlessly attractive'. Step back while communicating with others by being present to critique that other person will reveal just how much 'leakage' in nonverbal communication is going on. Those clues are everywhere so the more signals you pick up on, the more likely you'll know what to do to control the situation (or to not control). I especially liked the parts about identifying genuine happy facial expressions!

Any additional comments?

The only thing which bothered me was the sheer amount of advice being dispensed. I can't remember it all so it becomes overwhelming. It would be nice to have from Tonya some kind of memnonic or framework for keeping most of this knowledge organized in my mind.

Great book

Any additional comments?

This would have been infinitely better in print with illustrations. In fact, it would be incredible on DVD. As an audiobook, it is a bit challenging sometimes to picture the facial features or body postures/movements she describes. Nonetheless, a thoughtful, well presented and stimulating listen. Just because something could be better in a different media format, I can't take away stars. It definitely earned what I gave it (4's and 5's).

Change your body

What made the experience of listening to The Power of Body Language the most enjoyable?

I learned a lot from this book that I haven't from other books. Although I enjoyed the other book by the FBI agent, Tonya has a much more pleasurable and sexy voice that kept my attention longer.

I'll be listening to this book several times a year, at least, to keep refreshing me on how to be a better communicator.

What did you like best about this story?

I like that she not only gave descriptions of body language but also that she gave a perspective from the male AND female side. This has helped me to understand how my body language is perceived by the opposite sex.

Useful Knowledge

I would not call this book a necessarily exciting read, but I did find the knowledge within useful. Be careful, some of the behaviors that Tonya Reiman identifies in this book can't be unnoticed anymore once your attention has been brought to them. Reading body language can be a gift and a curse but I have definitely enjoyed bringing my awareness to this much neglected form of communication.

So-so...some good information but lacking focus

I learned some good information about body language and perception from this book but I feel that it needed to be better focused on teaching people how to analyse themselves and implement techniques for adjusting their own body language to meet what they desired to be and feel. It did a little of that but there was too much insignificant fluff that clouded it.

I would be ok with the author leaving out ALL of the tips for how to seduce the opposite sex. I felt like the subject drifted into instructions for hookers.

Interesting and useful tools.

This book was really interesting. It has some great information that could really give you an edge in your communication skills - if you could just remember it all! This book probably deserves a couple of listens if you actually want to benefit from the knowledge. Tonya Reiman's reading is good and gets better as she progresses through the book. This book is much more interesting that some of the other books about body language.

OK Book on Body Language

Unfortunately, this book was nothing to brag about. A lot of the body language discussed in this book I already knew based on common sense and life experience. A good book for the socially awkward perhaps, but the descriptions of body language was simple at best. I would have liked the narrator to read the book slower so that the listener could get a full mental picture of the descriptive body languages discussed in the book.
