Maltz's original book is a masterpiece. Sadly Kennedy wrote a new version which is much longer. He has dumbed down Maltz's book. Don't bother to get this book.
Just get the original Pschocybernetics and study that. It is loaded with gems.
Kenney's addition is loaded with trash.
The performance is fine. The content is a disgusting dumming down of Maltz's masterpiece
This is an exceptional audio program. So much so that I have listened to it many times over, and more recently purchased the printed book. I highly recommend using both formats in concert, the book as a study guide, and the audio program as a method of reinforcing the overall message of the book in your (the reader's) mind. This is far and away my favorite Audible title, and I have amassed quite a few in the short time I have been a member.
I've read tons of self-help books and this one has by far the most practical information. It is very easy to understand and keeps my attention. The person reading the book really does an excellent job at making you believe he is the actual author.
I am only halfway through this listen, but must say the ideas and concepts presented so far can be life changing (life improving) if one decides to use them. To think Maltz first wrote PC in 1960 - he was a true pioneer of the self-improvement movement. I am not quite certain what is Kennedy's work and which is Malt's work, however the two mesh well and give the listenner a lot to work with. It is not what happen's to us that impacts us as much as how we perceive what happens to us. Insecure individuals usually attempt to display power and material things to show their worth and if we realize this we won't let their quirks effect us as we may otherwise do. Also, visualization can often be as effective as physically doing something in regards to learning something - visually practising the piano or golf for example. These are just a few of the concepts presented. All in all I feel most anyone can benefit from listenning and practicing some of what is presented in this book.
Little Palace Worker
This is a great book! It basically fills in some of the gaps in Napolean Hill's philosophy of success. I've seen immediate results from using some of the techniques.
As a continual reader of and participant in personal development programs, I found this to be outstanding. It was my first Audible.com selection. I found Kennedy has very nicely blended Maltz's timeless ideas with more current content to provide an extremely useful program.
I would focus more on the content and message of the book. This is a very strange book. The entire thing is a commercial for the book. So much so that I feel like I didn't even read anything about Psycho-Cybernetics and need to listen the original in order to get the message.
There are many books that state the same message much better in my opinion. Ask and It Is Given, the Law of Attraction, Think and Grow Rich to name a few.
Interesting that a plastic surgeon would be the one to figure out the keys to happiness and success in the mental realm.
Every book I've read about NLP and reprogramming the subconscious seems to have its roots in this book.
I hope Maltz's other books will be available on Audio Book here soon.
This book is packed with very useable insights and excercises. It has help me very effectively handle the chairmanship of a conference and has improved my relationships and my confidence. It contains a set of success basics that everyone should know.
"Insightful and very interesting"
Disagree with negative review. Although this is a book first written in the early 60s and does have a thread running through it, it is one of those books that turns a light bulb on in your head. The original author was a cosmetic surgeon who found that although you can physically treat various conditions with the knife it often didn't help to change the way patients felt about themselves. The book addresses the effect of self image on success and achievement in life. I found this was explained very well and the methods of influencing and changing this seem to be effective and an interesting listen.
"I'll Listen to This At Least Twice a Year Now"
I have the paperback of the original Psycho-Cybernetics but went looking for an audio book version and found this. I have to say honestly it's a 5 star book.
I am glad that Audible now have a star rating for the 'performance' because Paul Michael not only does an excellent job of narrating it but he sounds a lot like Maxwell Maltz.
I'd strongly recommend listening to this book repeatedly because it's so deep.
"The New Psycho-Cybernetics (Unabridged)"
This is superb, both the book and the narrative. Your libaray is not complete without this book. The narrative was very clear, easy to listen to and follow and it felt as if I was listening to the author(s)- depicted the sentiment of the book. I am very glad I purchased it.
"Excellent - Ignore Negative Review"
As stated in this book, the basis of every self improvement book written since 1960 contain concepts taken from Psycho Cybernetics. This book doesn't just tell you how to think, it tells you what to actually DO to get in the right frame of mind to change your life. I will be listening to this a few more times before this goes on the book shelf!
"Intersting, helpful and pragmatic"
My title says it all. Maybe add: "intelligent and well-informed". I have confidence in what this guy says.
Nicely done update of an old classic. Well recorded and presented, full of good ideas.
A worthwhile read.
If you need guidance on how to help yourself fulfil your potential and destroy negative feelings , this book is for you. It's so enlightening and feels you with hope and belief!
"One of the best books I think in this genre"
I listen to audiobooks every day whilst working. I am fascinated in self improvement and mainly listen to books in the subject. I think this is a highly effective, user friendly, inspiring and engrossing book. This would work well for someone who is out off by 'airy fairy' concepts and presentations. Thank you for a great product.
I love this book, listen again and again ... hard to choose another when I have this!
It is just easy to listen to, understand and work with the principles.
How not to be an Android
"Very practical, easy to listen and mind-opening"
This is one of the best books I have ever listened to. I want to find the paper copy of it as well.
Nicely read, and full of great insights about human brain, behavior, based on solid research and real-life stories.
Plenty of practical suggestions about how to change the habits and your life.
