Great Job, Martha!
I'm big admirer of Martha Stewart. Impressed by her attention to detail, her drive and ambition. Thus was really looking forward to listening to this title but came away disappointed. It started fine but soon became a PR piece for her website, her magazine, her "high quality" pieces at Kmart, her organization. After awhile it felt as if I was listening to a child spweing out how great she was/is and see, look at what I have accomplished oh and hear me pronounce all these French deserts I can make.
Her Baking Cookbook that is in stores now is excellent and it is that kind of attention to detail I was anticipating here. But what "I" got was "here at Martha Stewart Living.com we're great because..."
Sorry Martha, you came across as a boastful salesperson. I greatly admire you but not on this one.
The Martha Rules is one of the most surprising business books I have purchased in the past year. If you are seeking books on entrepreneurship, Martha's style of writing is succinct, informative, motivating and even entertaining. Her narration is extremely well done. One of the best business/entrepreneurship books in my collection. I highly, highly recommend this book.
This is one of the book that should not have been written. It is clear that some publisher thought it would be a great idea to exploit Martha's celebrity status and write a book, like so many other business personalities. Unfortunately the result is uninteresting and downright boring to listen to. I have great respect for Martha and her capabillities but this book is nothing but trivialities and you have probably heard it all before. To be fair, perhaps all the interesting stuff is in the second half of the book, i didn't hear it...i fell a sleep!
Usefull, insightful, captivating
Martha. She's like an iron lady.
Martha is not the greatest reader. She's much too strong, her voice lacks sympathy or softness. She's too monotone at times.
no, just her
her voice was monotone, flat, unemotional, I feel like perhaps if I had read the book instead of listening to it, I might have gotten more out of it.
The examples of business inspiration she chose to include in the book were somehow made boring. I would have liked to know more about how she was personally influenced by her mentors. There was nothing 'personal' about this book.
Hearing Martha discussing the details of her meteoric success, in her own voice, in a very down to earth and instructional way, was really quite delightful. A great read--and excellent practical advice for anyone starting their own business.
I couldn't stop listening to this book! Lots of great information from someone who has really 'done it' in a big and spectacular way. Martha's specific examples/reflections from her own life were fascinating. Just wished the book was longer as I didn't want it to end!
A very sad look at business. Boring. Egocentric. Etc.
I really wanted to like this. But, her ego and need to tell stories that are unbelievably dull make this book something that she should be put away for. Perhaps a bad writers prison somewhere.
