"By far the best book on investing ever written." (Warren E. Buffett)
Good for someone who has no clue where to start, but not detailed enough for those whose already have their feet wet and may be looking for more detailed advice
Nothing ever really beats the original, but it is a close second.
The ideas are simply expressed, even if it was written so long ago, it still holds true today.
This movie won't make you a millionaire overnight, but it will help prevent you from going broke!
People in the financial world have touted this book as being one of the best, and after listening to it, I can see why!
It assumes that listener already has some background and knows terms like stocks, bonds and their basic classification. What is bull or bear market, etc.
Quick and educational.,
This book must be on every investors bookshelf.
Before searching for an investment advisor an investor should read this book.
Where's the beef? What was Benjamin's words vs some likely sycophant interpreting his book?
Anger that I was listening to some amalgam of Benjamin and god knows who.
I enjoy listening to old school investing strategies (that are still valid of course) and enjoyed the quickness of the book. Many investor books get dry but this one kept up the pace.
I know this book is supposed to be a classic, and I'm sure there are many valuable lessons to be extracted from it, but I think one would be better off buying the latest revision of the book rather than this audio book.
This audio book is like a good wine that has been lying too long in the cellar. It just seems so dry, and out of date, and the reader is terribly monotonous. He talks about "this tape" and refers to 1971 as "now". Come on! Get someone more lively to read it.
I listen to audio books when I'm running and have enjoyed many books on Investing that way. I've attempted to listen to this one twice, but never get past the first 30 minutes. The sound of tumbleweed in my head just becomes unbearable. I might try reading the book instead.
"Excellent book but can be difficult"
You'd find it hard to find a better book on value investing than this one. Written over 50 years ago there have been many newer versions printed with updates on the numbers and with recommendations from people such as Warren Buffett it has to be worth the money.
A few things you need to understand before reading/listening is what the difference between common stocks and bonds of all kinds are and also what the DJIA (Dow Jones Industrial Average) is. With these basics under your belt the book makes good listening/reading. Can be tough to get through if it's the first time you are reading about investing but keep reading/listening... you'll be glad you did.
This book won't make you rich in the short term but certainly could lead to riches in the future!! Good Luck and enjoy!
"Concise and easy to follow"
The old basics still ring true today and you can see why this is Warren Buffet's bread and butter. Certainly not the only book I'll be reading to further my stock trading knowledge but a great base to build from.
"What a book and what a narrator!"
This is a classic book on value and I am not sure whether the narrator was asked to cut short his time (to get the best value) He seems to be in a hurry and I would recommend buying the book itself. In the end thats what I did. The narrator did cause me a serious headache.
I do not have to talk about the value of this book and the contents in it , he only reason I put up with the narrator and heard the full audio for only one and only time.
Please read the previous reviewers comment and I would strongly recommend audible to do the book with a new narrator.
The remaining 2 stars as a negative only because of the audio format (the narrator again)
"a must read"
this book is a must read when it comes to value investing. The examples, however, are quite old but the guideline can be applied and must be applied for long term investment strategy. In short, if you like speculate (scalping, day trading, swing trading and so on) this book is not for you.
