I've been an Audible member for a couple of years and have listened to countless self-help and business titles. This is the first time I've been really inspired to write a review.
If you like parables like The One Minute Manager or The Richest Man in Babylon, then you'll love this one. Both the story AND the message are excellent - a rare combination, I think.
I can't recommend this one enough. There's a remarkable amount of simple but profound wisdom in it, and the narrators (both authors) do a superb job. I've already started listening for a second time!

At first I was cynical because I'm not a huge fan of business books disguised as fairy tales. But after just about 5 seconds I was engulfed in the story and couldn't wait to get to the end. Of course, real life success doesn't come as quick or as easy as it did for Joe at the end, but you get the picture. Enjoyable, inspiring listen!
This book fits the mold for a typical self-improvement style book. The outcomes of the very simple story line are terribly predictable and someone who finds predictability boring might possibly hate this book. I, however, found the reinforcement of a principle I greatly value to be extremely inspiring. The Go-Giver is basically an expansion on the timeless Biblical principles of Sowing and Reaping and putting others ahead of oneself. I would recommend that someone not read this book but get the outline of the principles and consider how they might apply them. I'm left feeling pleased with the read but I wouldn't recommend it.
This brilliant short story about Joe, the laws of success and business principles will fall into the likes of 'Think and Grow Rich'. A truly rich listen, highly recommended, especially if your business is not doing as well as you think it should be.
A definite audiobook for any business person. This book is in the top 5 of business books I've read (and I've read them all). This is 2 and 1/2 hours well spent.
I was so inspired by the hardcover edition that I wanted to enjoy "The Go-Giver" as an audiobook as well. But the two authors apparently decided that their success with the book qualified them to forego a professional narrator and just read it aloud themselves. What could possibly have accounted for this choice? Vanity? Hubris? Whatever it was, it was a bad decision.
No, they are not utterly awful, they are just ... amateurish. We Audible customers have very high standards from the professionals that perform our beloved audiobooks. This performance just doesn't measure up. I vote for a do-over with Frederick Davidson or Michael Pritchard.
As for the content ... This is the kind of book that changes lives. No kidding. As it did with Joe in the story, it has caused me to see my already successful career in an entirely new light. I have reaped some major benefits aleady.
If you can tolerate the narrators, by all means go ahead with this recording. But you can read the hardcover in an evening, and you might enjoy it more, as I did.
Right Up there,I love to learn through stories, the messages seem to make more sense. I was able to implement the information to my life and my business right away. I highly recommend it.

The book introduces a powerful and will thought set of ideas about an insight that go giverrs get more in life (which is great) into a weakly constructed story with some even "cheesy" bits and pieces.
This short book is both commendable and regrettable. It's commendable because its "Five Laws of Stratospheric Success" seem to be excellent goals to for anyone to pursue in business and in life outside business.
I say it's regrettable because it's one of those business advice books that promises, "If you can just do these things, you'll get rich quick!". The authors go so far as to imply "stratospheric success" awaits you if you can just implement the five rules. Horse hockey.
I have no doubt implementing the rules should improve anyone's life. They’re wise ideas and represent excellent goals. But the authors assure you they lead to miraculous success. What they never say is that’s nothing more than an opinion. And an unfounded one at that. The authors offer no evidence that people who implement these "rules" will achieve "stratospheric success". And they could not, because a phenomenon like major success is not that simple.
The authors are intentionally or unintentionally playing the same con game as you'll see in books like "Think and Grow Rich". They say there is a direct correlation between implementing their "rules" and achieving your dreams. This is a safe strategy for the authors. If you implement these rules and don't get rich quick, it must be your fault for not implementing them well enough, right? No, but the authors can always shift the blame to you if you don’t achieve “stratospheric success” after implementing their rules by claiming you did not do it thoroughly enough or something like that.
There is zero evidence that these rules (or any others) are a one-way ticket to achieving one's dreams. There is no such evidence, because they don't. Sure they might help. In some rare cases, they might even lead someone to real success. But the path to success can't generallly be boiled down to five rules or anything simplistic like that. If it did, why not share these five ideas with everyone in the main characters office and make the whole company astronomically successful overnight for example?
Here's another way to look at it. Did Bill Gates follow these five rules to achieve his stratospheric success? No, Bill is not known for the kind of behaviors set out in these rules. Warren Buffett is known for common sense and being a pleasant enough fellow. Is his success based on these five rules? No, he's consistently good at picking stocks, regardless of any of his other traits. Other than the authors, is there anyone saying, “These five rules made my fortune for me.”? Nope.
I still recommend this book because these "rules" are actually good principles to conduct business and live by. Be warned though. The fable itself is hard to swallow and the guarantees of "stratospheric success" is bunkum. Still, the book is short and offers some worthwhile wisdom.
While interesting to listen to and heart warming, this book presents the act of starting and running a business in a very simplistic and naive way. I am not saying that many very successful people do not have similar ways of running their businesses but there is nowhere in the book that gives the reality of the huge percentages of businesses that fail even when they do take all the book's lessons to heart.
My review comes from my experience of starting and running multiple successful and failed businesses. Reader beware. This book will only give you one side of the story.
"A easy and worthwhile read"
Things are changing fast. The days of take take take to success are being replaced with the need to care about who you serve and how well you serve them. As a entrepreneur myself, I see the value is this approach every day.. If you tend to focus on "how can I sell more" rather than "how can I better serve and deliver value to my customers" buy it and listen to it. It's 2 hours of your time well spent.

Like all these type of books (see any of the 'One minute manager' series) they are easy books to get through and useful for a bit of a pick up! So I'll put my hands up and say I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this as an audiobook.
But as to how effective the 5 'laws' espoused would be in reality I am not so convinced! Basically I think you could sum up the book by saying be a good person, look for ways to help others and be willing to accept and recognise others' help when offerred. And if you can do all that everything will work out wonderfully well.
It all works out nicely in the story of course. I'm not so convinced there are really any lessons to be learned here but of course looking for way to help others when you have the opportunity isn't a bad idea.
So I would say buy the book / audiobook, read / listen, enjoy, be a little inspired perhaps, but don't expect any true enlightenment. Life just isn't so simple. Of course maybe I'm just not enlightened enough!! :)
