Publisher's summary

Every new project (or job, or hobby, or company) starts out exciting and fun. Then it gets harder and less fun, until it hits a low point: really hard, and not much fun at all.

And then you find yourself asking if the goal is even worth the hassle. Maybe you're in a Dip: a temporary setback that you will overcome if you keep pushing. But maybe it's really a Cul-de-Sac, which will never get better, no matter how hard you try.

According to best-selling author Seth Godin, what really sets superstars apart from everyone else is the ability to escape dead ends quickly while staying focused and motivated when it really counts.

Winners quit fast, quit often, and quit without guilt: until they commit to beating the right Dip for the right reasons. In fact, winners seek out the Dip. They realize that the bigger the barrier, the bigger the reward for getting past it. If you can become number one in your niche, you'll get more than your fair share of profits, glory, and long-term security.

Losers, on the other hand, fall into two basic traps. Either they fail to stick out the Dip - they get to the moment of truth and then give up - or they never even find the right Dip to conquer.

Whether you're a graphic designer, a sales rep, an athlete, or an aspiring CEO, this fun little book will help you figure out if you're in a Dip that's worthy of your time, effort, and talents. If you are, The Dip will inspire you to hang tough. If not, it will help you find the courage to quit so you can be number one at something else.

Seth Godin doesn't claim to have all the answers. But he will teach you how to ask the right questions.

Written for you! Read or listen to it.

If you're a person or business, have a job, a company, or a relationship and aren't at the top of your field or have the perfect life, I recommend you listen to this book. It's nothing we all don't already know, its just most of us don't know when to quit and when to go for it. Most never even consider the question at all.

this book may be short but it drives home the point on when faced with a difficult decision if you should stay the course or if you should give up and focus on bigger better tasks.

Short but sweet.

Light the right kind of fire. On the verge of making the break or making the jump in the next stage of your career- this asks the right questions to frame quitting to make forward motion.

SImple, fast and essential to your growth

Seth Godin really knows how to send out a message with few words and easy language, and "The Dip" really follows that mantra.

It is a really short book, with one main message: To win, you must know when to quit. It's a solid reflection on why you should not try to carry the world on your back like Atlas did, but rather focus on your best skills and tools to thrive and be an awesome person.

The narration is good, it may lack a little of emotion, but nothing that really prejudice the understanding of the book.

With all that to consider, I give it a thumbs up to everyone who wants to now how to be a better professional and person.

Like the Title, Book Gets Better After "The Dip"

I really struggled to finish this audio book, at first. Some of it sounded long and rambling, but the last 20 minutes... it clicked. Recommend it for that last 20-30 minutes.

AWESOME!

Truly inspirational! A new fresh way to look at how to persevere with your dreams. A new way to look at "when to hold 'em or when to fold 'em!"
Short but sweet.
Refreshing Godin as always.

another hard hitting Seth Godin marketing book

he does such an amazing job of breaking down individual aspects of business and marketing into the bite size listening pieces so that you can blend them together and recall that marketing and business degree you got decades ago in a fresh new way. immediately applicable and relevant.

Changes your mindset

This book is a great read on not quitting. I like the example of the grocery store changing lanes. Sometimes we do that start something then stop.

The Dip...

This book was recommended to me by a co-worker. He noticed I dabbled in a lot of career fields and thought it might help me to understand where I am. He was right! This book explained the true journey of truly building upon your crafts and why it is okay to quit certain careers and simply stay grounded and focused on others. I kind of wish it was a little bit more in depth but overall...it's straight to the point which isn't a bad thing. it was a pretty decent read highlighting key aspects one can easily overlook and under compensate...
