Publisher's summary

Following the success of Lean In and Why Women Should Rule the World, the authors of the best-selling Womenomics provide an informative and practical guide to understanding the importance of confidence - and learning how to achieve it - for women of all ages and at all stages of their career.

Working women today are better educated and more well-qualified than ever before. Yet men still predominate in the corporate world. In The Confidence Code, Claire Shipman and Katty Kay argue that the key reason is confidence.

Combining cutting-edge research in genetics, gender, behavior, and cognition - with examples from their own lives and those of other successful women in politics, media, and business - Kay and Shipman go beyond admonishing women to "lean in". Instead, they offer the inspiration and practical advice women need to close the gap and achieve the careers they want and deserve.

Enlightening

The book is well written and references numerous scientific studies. I found the book to be enlightening and provided tools to build on women’s strengths and identify shortcoming and how to improve them.

Top professional researchers and writers.!

Very useful for all women, mothers and daughters, educators, bosses and of course sincere fathers, too! The authors thorougly cover their chosen topic about confidence issues of women from all backgrounds: Brain, Genes, Hormones, Environment, History, Society and Parenting, no subject or study in this field which could help us further, is left out. Typical women's work! :-)

Seeking Confidence from High Achievers

There was some interesting research, and I did enjoy parts of the book. However, now that I am almost finished, I feel quite frustrated. The authors went from one super high-achiever to another, looking for each woman's secret. Why not have a more diverse field of women to find confidence from? I believe it's unintentional, but that there is a subliminal message in this book that equates confidence strongly with salary and position. They did start with the question of why more women are not "at the top." Unfortunately, that remained the heart of the book, and it did not evolve into a true exploration of how all women, with varying degrees of social ambition, can be more confident. A few quick references to the PTA didn't balance it out for me.

Repetitive

The book was overall very informative but sometimes I felt like they just kept repeating the same information over and over again, worded a bit differently. Definitely still a good ‘read.’

Enjoyed this book

I do feel like the woman was victimized just a bit too much. I don't know if that's because in my head women are strong and I like to believe we are further along than what reality says or if it is just a little overboard. Regardless, there is a lot of significant and impactful insight to be gained by listening to this book - the authors do a nice job at keeping themselves transparent and a part of the discovery process which helps you identify and engage with the story.

I started listening to this book looking to build more confidence in my business but ended up empowered in so many other areas in my life as well. I recommend this book to anyone with children or who has ever felt unworthy 🌱💪💕

Good book for realist

It was an interesting book. It had a realistic yet gentle approach to explaining confidence. I loved the women empowerment vibe from it. I wouldn't give it 5 stars as there was too much useless fact information.
