Publisher's summary

Following the success of Lean In and Why Women Should Rule the World, the authors of the best-selling Womenomics provide an informative and practical guide to understanding the importance of confidence - and learning how to achieve it - for women of all ages and at all stages of their career.

Working women today are better educated and more well-qualified than ever before. Yet men still predominate in the corporate world. In The Confidence Code, Claire Shipman and Katty Kay argue that the key reason is confidence.

Combining cutting-edge research in genetics, gender, behavior, and cognition - with examples from their own lives and those of other successful women in politics, media, and business - Kay and Shipman go beyond admonishing women to "lean in". Instead, they offer the inspiration and practical advice women need to close the gap and achieve the careers they want and deserve.

Insightful and Intriguing - Must Listen

Quick listen and easy to understand concepts. I love the flow of the book and how the authors would revisit earlier themes to reinforce the points, using stories and anecdotes.

excellent and inspiring

I hate self help books. I made the mistake of thinking this was one of them which is why though I bought it when it first came out on Audible, but didn't start it. Big mistake. The actual topic is self help, but the delivery is more of a scientific research study, which absolutely appealed to my nerdy instincts. That said, I came out inspired, educated and, dare I say it, more confident! I highly recommend this, whether you think you have confidence or think you need some.

To be honest...

It was a good read, I enjoyed it. I loved to hear of all the researches done. However, I felt it dragged on about how unconfident women are and it felt like it was repeating itself a lot. I didn't hear much about what women need to do to be confident I did however hear what we do wrong so... Not too helpful. Good information overall though.

Chapter 7 should be required reading for parents

I was hoping for more instruction - a code for increasing confidence. Instead the authors presented several chapters on their research about factors (genetics, upbringing) that contribute to confidence. I’m glad I stuck with it though as chapter 6 offered some great insights. Chapter 7 should be required reading for parents, the authors provide excellent advice for building confidence and self efficacy in children.

Great book

My takeaway on this book was to Just Do It. Don't wait until you think you're ready, do it now.  I disagree with "don't fake it until you make it".  I think you should fake it until you make it  because you're taking a chance, being confident even if you absolutely feel it, but helping to give yourself the confidence you need.
