Publisher's summary

Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this piercing work distills 3,000 years of the history of power into 48 well-explicated laws. This bold volume outlines the laws of power in their unvarnished essence, synthesizing the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun-tzu, Carl von Clausewitz, and other great thinkers. Some laws teach the need for prudence ("Law 1: Never Outshine the Master") and the virtue of stealth ("Law 3: Conceal Your Intentions"); many demand the total absence of mercy ("Law 15: Crush Your Enemy Totally"). But like it or not, all have applications in real life. Illustrated through the tactics of Queen Elizabeth I, Henry Kissinger, P. T. Barnum, and other famous figures who have wielded, or been victimized by, power, these laws will fascinate any listener interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control.

Sad but true

Would you listen to The 48 Laws of Power again? Why?

Nope.
In my opinion it's a necessary read ~BUT~ I actually took notes on it while it was read. The notes filled a grand total of 1 - 8x11 piece of paper. There's little useful information and a whole lot of filler.

If you’ve listened to books by Robert Greene before, how does this one compare?

I have indeed.
This one is one of the best.

What about Don Leslie’s performance did you like?

This particular story would have been horrible with bad narration. Don Leslie is so into the performance that I found myself imitating him for fun at home. With him as orator, I'd follow the mob anywhere. It was like a sermon from some satanic church.

What did you learn from The 48 Laws of Power that you would use in your daily life?

Although I have no desire to be a ruthless and powerful person, I had never really appreciated power for what it is. This book is just so relevant to today's society. It's opened my eyes to the power plays going on around me at all times. Very enlightening.

Any additional comments?

Information is power! Don't read this, you wouldn't understand... Muahahahaha!

Very well written

Loved the book and the narrator. I was a little worried at first because the first 10 laws seemed sinister. I think it's a "good to know" kinda thing.

Made my brain grow!!!!-

This book is eye-opening this made ponder people and my past experiemce , and made me their genuinity. Like my best friend stated" this book can be used for good or evil". In the right hands it can be a powerful tool of protection like a sheld . In the wrong hands it can be a deadly weapon capable of causing mayhem and wounding anyone in its weak. Mr. Greene is brillant his usage of historial reference to give q further example of the strategy. This book has casted a spell on me and I can noone longer be naive about human nature , and make the assumption that people think the way I do when it comes to social issues that affects us all.

Great Management Skill Builder

I enjoyed the book. A bit of history, knowledge, and food for thought. Whether you are new to or thinking about management, in management already, or you would just like to strengthen the inner manager in you this book is a great read.

Not for the idealistic

This was a great pragmatic look at power and what has made powerful people powerful throughout history. It is definitely told from a narcissistic point of view… but, then again, it is a book that people read who want to become more powerful.
