Publisher's summary

Tim Ferriss is an extraordinary young man on a mission. The 28-year-old serial vagabond and successful entrepreneur has been teaching a wildly popular course at Princeton University for the past four years: a how-to and why-to guide to throwing out the old methods for success (balancing life and work, retiring well, having a great nest egg) and replacing them with an entirely new way of living.

The 4 Hour Work Week explains what a lifestyle entrepreneur is and why you should want to become one. It teaches you how to "kill" your job and design a life, the 80/20 rule and how it increases productivity, how to replace your dreams with goals, and more. Listeners can lead a rich life by working only four hours a week, freeing up the rest of their time to spend it living the lives they want.

Critic reviews

"It's about time this book was written. It is a long-overdue manifesto for the mobile lifestyle, and Tim Ferriss is the ideal ambassador." (Jack Canfield)
"Thanks to Tim Ferriss, I have more time in my life to travel, spend time with family, and write book blurbs. This is a dazzling and highly useful work." (A.J. Jacobs, Editor-at-Large, Esquire)

Changed my life!

No, this is not another get quick rich book. Yes, this book does describe a real 4 hour work week and prescribes practical actions to make it happen.

The reader is great, keeps your attention and speaks passionately. The entire book moves along at a great pace, keeping you interested chapter after chapter.

Within days of listening to the first several chapters I implemented many of its suggestions and literally shaved over ten hours of busy work. These practices can't work with EVERY job, that's for you to work out. However, if you're like me and do the work I do, then there is no reason to not put these principles into practice and start working smart, and enjoy the rest of the week how you want to!

Not for everyone

This book is resourceful _IF_ you are looking for alternatives and are courageous and willing to think (and act) outside the box.

The narration is okay, I did not think it was as bad as many have stated.

It is somewhat useless if you will read it just to read, you actually have to believe and be willing to try some of the stuff.

I personally found it useful, and have used some of it.

The 4 Hour Work Week

I was surprised to read the other reviews criticizing the reader's voice. I actually liked it and thought it was perfect for this book. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to eliminate the guilt attached to not being in the office and working 24/7.

Not bad - inspirational to an extent

Would love to hear this book updated now that technology has changed much of the business landscape.

Overall a decent book. Wish the author was the one reading as its many of his own stories. I wouldn't go out and quit my job tomorrow based on his advice or plans, but there's some nuggets of inspiration throughout the book of you want to be more adventurous in your life.

Good Content, Poor Taste, Poor Narration

The content of the book is great as are the examples. The narrator sounds very arrogant and from time to time, the author uses rather crude language. If you can look past all that, the core content is worth your time. A great series of lessons in applied creativity.
