Publisher's summary

People starting out in business tend to seek step-by-step formulas or rules, but in reality there are no magic bullets. Rather, says veteran company-builder Norm Brodsky, there's a mentality that helps street-smart entrepreneurs solve problems and pursue opportunities as they arise. Brodsky shares his hard-earned wisdom every month in Inc. magazine, in the hugely popular "Street Smarts" column he cowrites with Bo Burlingham. Now they've adapted their best advice into a comprehensive guide for anyone running a small business.

"One is tempted to say 'the only book you'll need on starting a business.' Brilliant! Genius! Choose your superlative - it'll fit." (Tom Peters)

Thankful for this book! A Must read if you are in business!

Norm has managed to capture some of the hardest challenges entrepreneurs face and shares his guidance through a school of hard knocks type of roadmap, using stories and life experiences to keep it funny, introspective and inspiring! Also with Sean Pratt who is quickly becoming one of my favorite narrators. Well done guys will be listening to this one again and again 🙌🏻

Great tidbits of information

Great tidbits of information that any business can use and implement. I took several notes and will probably relisten to it soon and take when more notes.

One of the best entrepreneur books

This is so far the best entrepreneur book I’ve come across. Norm paid the school fees so you don’t have to. I’ve started businesses in multiple industries and thought I had seen it all. The thought process and lessons he shares are priceless

Starting or Thinking about a Business? Good Listen

Would you consider the audio edition of Street Smarts to be better than the print version?

I did not read the printed edition, I've only listen to the audio edition.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The author himself and his wife that worked with him one day, then quit for 20 years, then came back to work in the company and took focus on the people and making a fun work place.

Which scene was your favorite?

All of them, just good lessons learned in the business experience the author shared

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Well, the story about the kittens and how the employees came together was touching

Any additional comments?

If your in business already, thinking about going in to business or just need some lessons learned, this is a good book to listen to. Any good listener will pick up nuggets of educations any anything they hear or read. This audio book is full of golden nuggets in business experience and ideals.

Where does Street Smarts rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top Notch

The part about not paying sales people commission, although I doubt its effectiveness, its still an eye opener and a new way of looking at things.

Only Business Book You Need To Read??

What did you love best about Street Smarts?

No Fluff. Nitty Gritty business truth that covers all facets of business.

What did you like best about this story?

The stories. Based on Norm's 30+ years of business experience, he has seen it all. One can relate to the stories and learn something from others' mistakes.

Have you listened to any of Sean Pratt’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I don't know if I have or not, but his voice did sound familiar. I'm writing this review after the second listen so maybe I remember his voice from about a year ago when I first listened to the book. He does a great job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The very first chapter. I related to the couple in the first chapter and it brought back some memories of starting my first business.

Any additional comments?

If I found myself on a deserted island and could have 5 books to listen to/read, I would want 3 copies of this one...
