A definitive book for any CEO - first time or otherwise - of a high-growth company.
While big company CEOs are usually groomed for the job for years, startup CEOs aren't - and they're often young and relatively inexperienced in business in general.
Author Matt Blumberg, a technology and marketing entrepreneur, knows this all too well. Back in 1999, he started a company called Return Path, which later became the driving force behind the creation of his blog, OnlyOnce - because "you're only a first time CEO once."
Now, more than a decade later, he's written Startup CEO. As the fifth in the StartUp Revolution series, this reliable resource is based on Blumberg's experience as a startup CEO and covers a number of issues he's faced over the dozen years he's been a CEO.
Engaging and informative, this book is essential reading for any, and every, CEO.

I must admit that I thought of just purchasing a hard copy of the book to avoid the narration. It was difficult to listen to, and at times felt like the narrator was trying too hard. However, I do feel this book provided great insight for all leaders of startups, but was directed more toward those in the world of technology.
The author shared his really valuable experience building and maturing his organization. The book touches on all the topics that one may face in the course of being a startup CEO.
The information was spot on. Very valuable and thorough. For someone like me who is looking for angel money to become the CEO of a startup, it was just what I needed. The only caveat is that I'm highly educated and have a lot of experience in the nuts and bolts of business and accounting (Master's Degree in Accounting, Certified Management Accountant). So someone who has a dream and an idea but no business (and especially accounting) experience might do well to shore up other weaknesses first before hitting this one. I say that simply because I'm thinking of entrepreneur CEOs that I work with who lack the fundamental skills of running a business, in which case this book is like getting a bigger engine for your car while ignoring that the car doesn't have tires.
I enjoyed the audible version very much and when I re-listen to this book I want to have a hard copy in hand to highlight and mark up.
I was lucky, I found this book just in time. I Couldn't imagine how useful this book could be when I listened to the first chapter.
I learned more that expected in my reading journey.
There are two suggestions for others:
1. There is a reason why chapters are divided. Try to learn them one by one. Early morning commute time was suitable for me, find your daily focus time first.
2. This book is a source to go back to when needed, put bookmark notes to find your way back.
Matt bloomberg's book was the perfect audio book for me as a new entrepreneur and aspiring CEO who wanted to get a thorough overview of the different challenges, rewards, and pitfalls I may encounter in starting a new tech business. I tip my virtual hat to you, Matt.
The book was totally what I expected. A thorough guide on what means to be a CEO and the different responsibilities and roles during the lifespan of the company.
After reading this book I think of it as one of those reference book where I would totally go back and listen again the advice on a specific topic.
Honestly I did not like the narration. It was maybe the accent, the tone, the speed or all of them that made every sentence sound like a movie trailer introduction. It was very difficult to listen because of this at normal speed. At 3x that is basically lost so this is how I managed to get over that.
"Enjoyable insight into the thinking and workings"
This is an interesting insight into the processes of being a ceo. Even if you are not the spire an entrepreneur and just a person operating in the world of business this book is of benefit, the way the programs and operations are presented can be applied to just running your life and not just running at startup.
