number-one New York Times best-selling author John C. Maxwell believes that any setback, whether professional or personal, can be turned into a step forward when you possess the right tools to turn a loss into a gain. Drawing on nearly fifty years of leadership experience, Dr. Maxwell provides a roadmap for winning by examining the eleven elements that constitute the DNA of learners who succeed in the face of problems, failure, and losses.
1. Humility - The Spirit of Learning
2. Reality - The Foundation of Learning
3. Responsibility - The First Step of Learning
4. Improvement - The Focus of Learning
5. Hope - The Motivation of Learning
6. Teachability - The Pathway of Learning
7. Adversity - The Catalyst of Learning
8. Problems - The Opportunities of Learning
9. Bad Experiences - The Perspective for Learning
10. Change - The Price of Learning
11. Maturity - The Value of Learning
Learning is not easy during down times, it takes discipline to do the right thing when something goes wrong. As John Maxwell often points out - experience isn't the best teacher; evaluated experience is.

I love this book. It is another great piece of work by John C Maxwell. He does have an excellent way of taking the cookie jar off the top shelf and putting it where you can reach it.
I highly recommend this book as an addition to people in Recovery. It is a great way to see the same principles of learning as you find in 12 Step programs including lessons on humility and pride. It discusses how to deal with adversity in a positive way and how to overcome the things we call failures to make them learning experiences without damaging self talk that runs us back to whatever we go to to lick our wounds in an unhealthy manner.
It is an awesome book from a great man who knows how to make it easy to learn the things to be successful in anything you put your mind to.
No. I've heard Maxwell narrate a number of his own books and this does not capture the reflection I'd expect. I feel like the meaning is diminished or changed as a result.
Good things to reflect upon.
No - found it quite distracting.
Chapter on humility.
You are what you feed your mind...so, feed it the good stuff!!!
There's is so much insight in this book that you must listen too it, probably several times in order to get all the value out of it, this much wisdom packed into one small book doesn't come around too often! Enjoy!!!
Making conscious efforts to learn from your shortcomings, failures, challenges and unconscious mistakes is a school on its own. Invest in your money; buy this book.
It did exactly what I thought it would. Refreshed my motivation and kept me full of can-do power.
And as you know, John can trusted to not come from some crazy pop-psychology angle, only solid teaching.
yes, its inspiring. you always learn, no matter what happens you learn, its about changing the attitude.
Sometimes you win gives many lessons on leadership, how to become a
good leader and how to find the greatness within yourself. Try not to take to much in at a time. The author gives so much helpful and useful information, if you are open to it you will see what you need to do to impliment it. Don't try to digest too much to quickly. Take each chapter slowly!!!
You can tell this is a leader who practices what he preaches. So many have the misconception that once they finish school they're learning is over but that is when it really begins!
The book is well-written, organized and easy to understand sections where there is an excellent balance of nuggets of truth with life examples.
I would recommend this book to really anyone who is serious about becoming better, wiser, and willing to become a better person, resulting in a deeper appreciation of life, periods of joy, as well as being a more desirable person to know.
Loved this audio book! Some of the lessons were familiar. Some were new. But all the lessons were diamonds!!! No doubt as I implement what I'm learning, I will see significant growth. Will be listening to this again this week in preparation to actually sit down and read it myself.
