The music industry has changed from the days of the record labels being in charge of everything. Your success is not dependent on them alone anymore. David does a great job of spelling out the opportunities available to musicians of all stripes and describes the tools and techniques to help you engage with your audience. The audible.com version has a great appendix packed with information and an interview with the author.
That it is not about you, but about making your audience feel good, that is the business we are in. The business is also not only about selling music, it is about engaging with your audience and making them feel good.
This was a good read well I should say listen. For any artist any genre take what you like and start moving that music TODAY do not wait for no one play YOUR own game and you won't lose
This book has a lot of the standard "You can do it! Get there and get it!" without giving any real practical advice. It's also very dated.
Ideas worth spreading
The book answers a lot of tricky questions that I toughed are nowhere to be found. It contains a lot of useful ideas. It is clear, understandable and practical.
It was ok
No, I wanted to do it step by step, because I needed time to digest so many ideas that I found in the book.
I'm very happy that I've found this book, and listened to it. It helped me understand how really music business works and where it is going. The book has changed the perspective on those issues, that I have struggled to understand before. After listening to it I gained much more confidence in what I'm doing. Now I have more ideas for building cool future music career.
Singer songwriter and book adventure
The six figure musican is an all encompassing, psychologically educating approach to what you need to be successful in music. While there are some blatant explanations on what to do, when and where to do it, this is a book focusing on the "why" to do it. You will learn to connect better with fans, time management gems, and amazing promotion and marketing ideas, just to name a few. Whether you are starting out, getting started again (like me) or need to get to the next level, this is for you.
This is a must read for any musician who wants to make music their career. I've read tons of books and articles and this one really hit home. It gives real, practical advice you can take action on this second. The author and reader understand my struggles as a musician and offer real help without judgment. I truly appreciate this book as a contribution to the music industry and to my personal career in an all girl rock band. This is a game changer!
There are some great ideas in this book for musicians looking at engaging with their fans in the modern music industry. I got a lot out of it.
The first chapter reads like the transcript of a high school student's speech on the theme, "Motivational Talk." I can't comment on further chapters as I didn't make it that far.
On second thought, my above description is unfair the the quality of speech many high school students would give.
After reading Six-Figure Musician , I feel much more knowledgeable and confident about the business of music and how to develop my career. In here are some great how to tips and strategic marketing theories that I believe every musician building their career should consider. Six-Figure musician is a great guide online managing their own music business career starting out. I'm going to be reading this book over and over again throughout my journey and using some of what is shared in this book to help guide me. Thank you to David Hooper and his team for taking the time to create this wonderful guide.
