    "A very basic and adequate book"

    A very rudimentary covering on the topic of questions for business.

    Most of the chapters have a few interesting questions, but then say see our web site for more. Not sure why I would buy the book that wants me to goto their web site, unless the book contains a "key" to use the web site which is not available for free. No key was obvious listening to the audio.

    I'd say go read their web site material. If you like what you see, great this sounds like the meat of what they have to offer. If you don't, great you have been able to see you don't need this material.

    Almost all the stories are so generic, scrubbed and basic that I didn't feel they provided value or sell me on the concepts.
    Since the stories were so generic, it's unclear where they been able to help others through getting to greatness. Given the other higher marked reviews, so must have found them helpful.

    The book attempts to cover very broad ranging topics in a single chapter, leaving he material very superficial and light real material. Here's my break down by chapter.

    Chapter 1 Questions that get results: Compare and contrast questions was the high light of this chapter.
    Chapter 2 Questions that manager your team: Nothing noteworthy for me here. There is a lot better material else where
    Chapter 3 Questions that delegate: basic delegation chapter
    Chapter 4 Questions that coach:
    Chapter 5 Questions that motivate: basic overview and I was motivated to move by quickly
    Chapter 6 Questions that hire: The most interesting part was a short section on how to get interviewees to be specific
    Chapter 7 Questions that uncover goals: interesting couple of questions to help unlock potential for middle tier employees
    Chapter 8 Questions that manage across: Very basic overview with overly simple examples
    Chapter 9 Questions that manage upwards: Good reminder to manage up and basic overview
    Chapter 10 Questions that develop and sustain external business relationships: good reminder to network
    Chapter 11 Questions that manage your career: basics of figuring out what do you want from your career. Challenges you to think about how to use this material understands the wants/needs of your employees careers
    Chapter 12 Questions that assess opportunities: gets you thinking about questions you should yourself and hiring company if you are considering a new opportunity. HInt, complete chapter 11 work to know yourself.
    Chapter 13 Questions that manage your relationship with your kids: One of the few business books that I have seen attempt to walk through a home/life balance section. Chapter 11 had this theme as well.

    "Good but with a lot of padding"
    Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

    It could have been done in far less time. There was a degree of repetition and posing of questions which were extraneous or obvious. The stories went on too long. Sometimes authors need to appreciate that by writing less they can distill down more value for the (busy) reader.Overall, there was good value in this book but at almost 6 hours it was far too long. I had to work hard to extract the value from it.


    What was most disappointing about Paul Cherry and Patrick Connor ’s story?

    Trying to sort the good stuff from the padding.

    Yes, some of it was very useful. There were some sections which have been helpful in framing good questions and thinking about the subject in a different way.
