Publisher's summary

The story of Captain Abrashoff and his command of USS Benfold has become legendary inside and outside the Navy. By governing his ship through his unique management techniques, Abrashoff turned the Benfold into a model of naval efficiency, with amazing cost savings, the highest gunnery score in the Pacific Fleet, and a highly motivated and top performing crew.

In It's Your Ship, he first demonstrated how to bring his successful management techniques from the ship to the boardroom. Now, in his newest book It's Your Ship - in the same rugged, can-do voice - Abrashoff will focus on the leadership, motivational, and management insights and tips that he has learned from his last six years of addressing business and corporate audiences.

Abrashoff's timely advice will be eminently prescriptive and will feature anecdotes and insights from leaders of businesses large and small and from public and non-profit sectors.

the book was fine, just want unabridged

I am not a fan of abridged audio books which is why I gave it 3 stars. the content is good but I am going to skin through the paper edition to see what I missed.

Great Book

I have his first book "It's Your Ship," and this updated version is better than that. I use these theories at my job in the fire department to help with my daily operation. Good job Captain Abrashoff and thanks for the help.

Wonderful 'Next Chapter' Book

Capt Abrashoff is a leader. The product of the finest military education our country has to offer. He is articulate and insightful enough to describe things in a civilian lexicon. This volume uses real world business examples that were, in my opinion (Excuse me Capt Abrashoff) "missing" from the original book 'Its Your Ship'.

The establishment of his perspective on leadership was solid from the first book but in this volume he expands upon the ideas he referenced in IYS. Just as IYS was clearly written with a first hand account of military and government service IOS is written from the same level of experience in the business world.

Capt Abrashoff is fine narrator and lends just enough technical material into a story to keep both experienced leaders interested and also grab new and developing leaders.

I would like to see Capt Abrashoff continue with this pattern, practical application of proven methods and 'heres how you can do it too' and also develop career length reflection and goal orchestration. I think that the advantages of having a leader with his experience is the ability to expose new leaders to it but also how they can plan for next week, next month, next quarter, next year and 5 or 10 years down the line.

A great 'next chapter' and i look forward to hearing what else he finds and how he brings those experiences to us.

A bit of the more of the same, but worthy

I like the stories and advice, but if you're looking for new revelations, you won't find it here.

I prefer “It’s your ship”

This is a good reflective piece but the original book is more practical for building a high performing team.

Good 2nd book.

I would still recommend it. While I enjoyed this book, it was just not as profound as his first book. "It's your ship". Having said that, I was still able to mine a few more gold nuggets from it.

Excellent Book about Leadership

This book in some ways was far better than the first. The author recognized that he didn't play well with other leaders particularly well and this book attempted to fix these criticisms. I particularly enjoyed this book as I am currently in the Army (having joined at a late age). However, this book should appeal to both military and non-military readers.
