Publisher's Summary

From the acclaimed, best-selling authors of The Go-Giver, a new parable about leadership and the power of positive persuasion.

In this inspirational parable, we meet Ben, a young manager charged with persuading five hundred employees of a struggling chair manufacturer to agree to a merger as a way out of their financial woes. Facing what seems like an impossible uphill climb, Ben seeks the advice of Claire, an old friend, who introduces him to an eccentric elderly lady known simply as Aunt Elle.

Over the course of the week leading up to the crucial vote, Aunt Elle teaches Ben about the power of influence and positive persuasion. Ben also meets with each of the manufacturer's four top executives in an effort to sway them to his side, and instead comes away from each meeting with a different leadership lesson. But it's not until Ben reflects on his own experiences that he learns the critical principle so many people in positions of power fail to grasp: it's not about me, it's about you. Written with the same light touch that made The Go-Giver a hit, this book is sure to resonate with anyone who wants to understand genuine leadership and subtle influence.

"Great blend of story and message."

I found embedding some very important philosophies in this practical story easy to relate to in a real-life way. There is a message here for everyone regardless on perceived status or occupation.

    "Great story and powerful lessons"
What did you love best about It's Not About You?

The book does an amazing job at demonstrating via a story the powerful lessons that Bob Burg, and John David Mann have been sharing with us in previous books.

I have listened to the book three times now and each time I have taken away more nuggets of value. I listen to this one in the car on my way to appointments. It helps me stay in the mindset that it is all about them and not me. Since I have been exposed to the books by Burg and Mann my personal and professional life has improved greatly.

Take the time to listen to this one. You will find it to be powerful and it just might help change your life.

What other book might you compare It's Not About You to and why?

    The Go Giver
    Go Givers Sell More
(7)L The Seven Levels of Communication.

What about Bob Burg and John David Mann ’s performance did you like?

The authors are the performers and both do a good job at delivering the book in an enjoyable manner.

    "It's not about business"
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It was a pleasant story, although rather simplistic.

    Any additional comments?

Why is it that any book I listen to about business seems to have been written for an eight year old?

    "Now they tell me!"
Where does It's Not About You rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

As far as books go this might not be a top 10 book you keep coming back to but it certainly will be the book you refer to when you know you need a little more focus...and in the right areas. Much like many of my other 'self help' style books this is a great journey that really will get a good deal of use over the reminder of your personal and professional life

What did you like best about this story?

The story really ties together well with characters you can relate to, a situation we can all imagine or transpose onto our own lives and issues faced the we have all stared down. That makes this very easy to synthesis into our own issues.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

While I think you could easily listen to the whole book in one session I would like to think that this is better absorbed in bites that can be digested and savoured. I found myself listening to chapters and then wanting to change the world as I applied what I had heard. I cannot say that everyone will feel the same but certainly this is a book that if you do listen to in one session you will be coming back again to get the texture and flavour of each chapter.

    Any additional comments?

Book like these have become very popular now..Soup, The Energy Bus, Who moved my cheese and Zapped (Last 2 are the older generation of this style) but it is easy to see why. Learning through storytelling (much like leading through storytelling) has become a whole field that is very effective. This book is no different and certainly up there with some of the best. I really took a lot out of this and have already felt the change (as well as seen the change) in my style back to the certre. If you are a leader and have potentially lost your way, or a leader that wants to stay on the right path then this is for you...in fact if you are an aspiring leader then here is a chance to get a head start on everyone else...

    "Simply fantastic!!!"
Would you consider the audio edition of It's Not About You to be better than the print version?

I've not read the print version of the book, but couldn't imagine it to be even close to how great the audio was.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I listened to it about a month ago so I don't recall the exact names of the characters, but they were all great!! from the main character to aunt... to the two owners and Frank.

What does Bob Burg and John David Mann bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

Well, believe it or not I made my instant decision after I heard the sample of the audio and knew right off 'this is going to be great' I thought if anything I could learn to improve my own presentations just from the delivery of the narators.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was absolutely revitted!!! I usually listen while I walk my two dogs, so we walked and walked just so I can hear some more.

    Any additional comments?

I would highly recommend to most authors of audio books if they want a safe bet to use Bob Burg and John Mann.
