After listening to this audio a few times this is an excellent book - 20 years ago. The concepts are old and doesn't work for this generation.
If Spiritual Capitalism is a term, this book epitomizes it. The title was a turn off for me for years, but I finally downloaded the book only after a friend whom I respect for his intelligence and peaceful sprit informed me that he was reading it. This book is a “business” version of how to essentially “do good” in the universe through your thoughts and actions. If each of us aspired to master the concepts Dale Carnegie presents in his book with pure intention, the world would be more positive, happy, and productive indeed.
Not just a bunch of theoretical concepts, this book has a lot of simple examples of how to win friends, that's what I liked the most.
I read through this book in about a week and I started seeing instant results. I'm a shy type of person so a lot of the simple common sense things that this book suggests was just out of my comfort zone, but when I read how effective those little things like saying someone's name and being a good listener and asking the next question, I started to step out and immediately, people wanted to talk with me more.
Straightforward concepts with easy to understand applications that will help in both business and personal life. Highly recommended.
This is a great book and Dale Carnegie is without a doubt a great author. I have to say however that the lessons in this book do work so much better in therory than in reality. Even with that being said, there is still great value to be gleaned from these lessons. I'd still recomend it.
If I could list five "must-reads" before you died, "How to Win Friends & Influence People" would be towards the top of the list. A timeless list of great insights in how to treat others well, get what you want and create lasting relationships. Book gets a little lengthy feeling with multiple examples to illustrate the same point but the stories are entertaining in themselves. Wasn't crazy about the narrator's voice and reading style as it seemed to date the book a little bit. All in all, I was very happy with this book and now recommend it regularly.
GREAT read do the socially inapt. Tells/ shows the fundamental techniques of how to handle people, ways to make people like you, ways to show people your way of thinking, how to change people without being offense, and rules for making your like HAPPIER overall.
