Publisher's Summary

"Making money is a knack, a knack that can be acquired. And if someone like me can become rich, then so can you - no matter what your present circumstances. Here is how I did it and what I learned along the way." So writes Felix Dennis, who believes that almost anyone of reasonable intelligence can become rich, given sufficient motivation and application. How To Get Rich is a distillation of his business wisdom. Primarily concerned with the step-by-step creation of wealth, it ruthlessly dissects the business failures and financial triumphs of "a South London lad who became rich virtually by accident".

Part manual, part memoir, part primer, this book is a template for those who are willing to stare down failure and transform their lives. Canny, infuriating, cynical, and generous by turns, How to Get Rich is an invaluable guide to "the surprisingly simple art of collecting money which already has your name on it".

An entertaining look at a rich man'a career, foibles, and egomania. I enjoyed it, despite the unmistakable message of , Don't try to get rich--you couldn't do it!

"The Best Book On Wealth So Far"
If you could sum up How to Get Rich in three words, what would they be?

    Exciting, Invigorating, Sobering

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Felix Dennis

Which character – as performed by David Ryder – was your favorite?

Felix was performed at his best

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

How to be Rich - a true story

    Any additional comments?

I have never comment on any book, but this book I hold in high esteem. Simple because it was written by a man who had made his own riches. After reading I am bit more excited, scared but sober as to the acquisition of wealth.
If you are to seek riches This Book is a must read. It as simple as that.

"The anti-manual on how to get rich."

This book has ruined me for other 'how to get rich' books.

I own my own business and I would like to think that I'm on my way to becoming one of the 'comfortable poor' - a term the author uses to describe affluent people who are not super rich. I like to read the odd self help book on how to achieve wealth and stumbled upon this one.

The author, Felix Dennis, is a self made multi-milionnaire and by his own admission this book sets about telling the listener how difficult it is to become rich. It tells you in graphic detail how you will lose friends, how people will try to discourage you, how you may fail and lose everything, how you may be publicly humiliated and how your health and sanity can, and most likely will, suffer. But then it gives very sober and practical advice on how to combat these negative issues and how to come out at the other end alive and rich... or not.

So why did this book ruin me for other get rich books? The author spent quite a few minutes ranting on about the authors of other get rich self-help books and how most of them are only rich because they write self-help books on how to get rich. Think about this comment for a bit... Felix Dennis is filthy rich. He made all those riches himself. Then he wrote a book telling us how to do it as well. This is the book.

"A personal insight into the pursuit of wealth"

This is a personal opinion on how the author, publishing mogul Felix Dennis made his money (approx £750m at the time of his death in 2014).

There are some interesting anecdotes and in truth some sound advice about certain topics but like many of these books. The author focusses on the overall creation of wealth and for many people, getting from £20m to £100m of wealth is not as interesting as making that first few million.

Generally this is a good listen (although the musical interludes between chapters is a little odd) but don't expect too much from this more than a story of how the author did it and at times you may be left feeling a little patronised. It is worth a listen though and I will at some point probably give it a second listen to pick up on the gems hidden amongst the prose!

"Brilliant for anyone running a business or wanting to run a business"

Felix literally skips all of niceties and tells you literally how to become rich, plus what sacrifices you will likely have to forgo. It's a shame he died before reaching 60. Bring a business owner, I think that is one of the best realist business books I have ever read. There is so much crap on the market place written by people who never even ran a successful business but Felix did run several very very successful businesses, and by the looks of things has had many run ins with staff, family and partners etc.

"Brilliant! That's it really - just read it..."

What a gem of a book this is. How to get rich written by someone who really is rich but unusually with no personal agenda to profit by you reading their book.
Utterly practical, brutally honest and eloquently presented means this book has now shot into my list of favourite business books ever.
That's it really - I might just listen to it all over again right now and I never do that with a book.
You will not be disappointed with the experience of reading / listening to this book, although you may be disappointed to discover the odds and cost involved in emulating the author.

A true reality of what it takes to become rich, hard facts and hard reality. Not a book for someone living in dreamland a book for someone who's willing to give it their all to succeed. Great book, RIP Felix Dennis.

Where does How to Get Rich rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I enjoyed this book as much for what it didn't say as what it did. He is scathing about 'Think and get rich' books but it is clear that he thinks (or at least thought) a greet deal on the subject.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked the idea of the elephant and the flea. The flea was my favourite character.

What does David Ryder bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The book is brilliantly well read. He had perfect accent and nuance for capturing the irony of quite a lot that would sound ridiculously pompous if spoken without a nudge. I shall look out for him again.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I think probably the end. Having boasted of great riches at the start and how these have enabled him to retire to Mustique to write poetry, he reminds us that actually you don't have to be rich to visit the Windwood Islands and observe a good sunset. You also don't need to be rich to write poetry. Better by far to be happy than super rich. Unfortunately, happiness usually require a modicum of wealth. It is hard to be happy when you can't pay the bills let alone afford the cost of the flight to your personal paradise.

    Any additional comments?

He sounds like the sort of bloke it would have been fun to know. I suspect that in the flesh he was a lot nicer than this, sometimes sternly materialistic, autobiography would have us believe.
