The words you use say a lot about you...but the way you put them together says even more. Your grammar makes an immediate - and lasting - impression on your boss, your co-workers, your teachers, and even your friends.

So don't make the mistake of thinking that grammar is too complicated or boring for anyone but linguists and nerds. We all use grammar, but many of us could use it better. We've created Grammar Smart, a witty, irreverent, and entertaining approach to grammar to help you write and speak with clarity and confidence. Grammar Smart will teach you how to choose between "that" and "which," decide when to use "like" instead of "as," and know for sure if it's "between you and I" or "between you and me."

This program includes:

  • Funny examples and stories to illustrate correct usage
  • Brief, interactive question-and-answer reviews
  • The basic parts of speech - nouns, verbs, and adjectives
  • Pronoun-verb agreement, parallel construction, the dreaded misplaced modifiers, and dangling participles - all without pain!

      "Grating at times but useful"

I found this to be painful to listen to, but if you can make it past the unfunny banter, I think you will improve and become more confident with grammar. I purchased this as part of my GMAT prep and feel like this program helped a great deal. It's pretty basic stuff that I feel like I learned in school but had since forgotten. Some of you smarties might not find it useful. Great for those of us who went to public schools! :)

      "Good rules, annoying presentation"

First, I would strongly recommend that Audible get more of these grammar books...there are just too few to choose from. That said, this is unfortunately one of the best choices here.

The good: The rules are great. You will learn about a ton of mistakes that you make on a daily basis and will come away with some great new fixes. Very helpful for test prep, as I prepare for my GMATs.

The bad: The presenters are probably the two most annoying people ever. Some moron at the Princeton Review probably thought these people and this kind of presentation would stick. If you hate Monty Python (like I do) you will hate the presenters and the humor on this listen. It only makes it harder to listen to. Instead of using simple examples to illustrate their point, they use really annoying examples with stupid, made up words sometimes to make a point. The "news reports" in between are abominable and hard to follow. Hopefully they fired the two geeks doing the dialog as well as the schmucks who wrote the dialog and replaced them with easier to follow examples and more professional people.

I hope that Audible adds more grammar books and considers using similar products from companies like Kaplan or Verbal Advantage who tend to do things much more seriously and professionally. Until then, this is about the best we got...or have :).

      "Grammar Refresher Course"

Well laid out and easy to follow format allows for frequent review of covered topics. At the end of each module, they incorporate the subjects into a mock radio news report to reinforce your understanding of the lesson. Very helpful refresher course on conversational grammar, I would recommend this to anyone.

      "Will need your full attention"

The content of this book is good. I listened to this book while driving back and forth between work and home. It turned out to be a hassle listening to this, as I found myself rewinding very often. It needs all your attention. I'd recommend listening to this while NOT driving.

One thing I'd really like to see in this book is, more gap between sentences - pausing a couple of seconds between complex sentences will let me digest the concept better.

Over all I think this book turned out to be an useful one and I will be listen to it one more time to make sure that I remember everything.

"Pleasing Banter-Good material we should all know"

This is a great tape and an engaging presentation. The s*xu@l tension between the two presenters is palpable even for as dry a subject as this. I want to meet that sparky, grammar-smart girl!
WARNING: There is a gap in the audio!! Chapter four ends abruptly in mid sentence (1:05:34, approx) then chapter five begins.
Also, the last third of the recording sounds like it was recorded in a tin box.
Usually, Audible ignores these problems so call them and bug them to fix the problem.

"Definitely a good Grammar Refresher Course"

      Would definitely recommend.
Also found it useful for the sentence correction section of the GMAT.

What would have made Grammar Smart better?

This book was just annoying to listen to. (Sorry, but it was.) I was just hoping for more..
