An eclectic wordist. YA? Fantasy? Sci-fi? Humor? Yes. Yes, please. I like what ifs, relatively happy endings, and strong narrators.
This is a superb audiobook. I listen to many, and do not use effusive praise lightly. I usually listen to audiobooks and podcasts before bed, to help me relax before sleep. Get-it-done-guy is one of my favorites, and the 10 minutes or so usually offered is a great break from my day. Stever tickles my funny bone like he put "make this girl laugh" on his life map. But now that I have so many hours of his humor, all in one place, and it is so good - both well written and educational in a "stop what you're doing and reorganize your life right now" kind of way - how is it that I am supposed to get any sleep? I keep giggling out loud and waking up my husband, who then listens himself and then chuckles so loudly that I still can't sleep, even though husband has stolen the earphones. What the heck!?! Here is the part of the review where I would say that Stever is a cross between "insert business guru here" and "insert comedian's name here", but he is such an original that comparisons are useless. Go get an episode of the podcast. Any will do. If you do not laugh, go buy a "How to get a sense of humor" audiobook instead. If you laugh, or change your life for the better, or - most likely - change your life for the better while figuring out how to invest in the Depends brand so you can listen to more, then you should buy this audiobook. Possible also while buying the hard copy so you can use a highlighter for the good parts. S'what I did, and look how happy I am. Well, except for the not being able to sleep part...
Less of the quirky personality of the author. He had good points however the delivery method depended on being on his weird wavelength. Injections about things such as zombies to make his point were funny at first, tired in the end.
If his style matures, the book is written to amuse the 20 something crowd.
Not likely that I would spend the time or money.
I listened to the book several months ago and just remember feeling, good points but awful delivery. Too many of his personal experiences etc I could not relate with.
I commend the guy for trying.
Fanatical Endurance Athlete, who listens to a lot of books while training.
Stever provides 9 Steps to help you get more organised in your life at work and home.
His approach introduces real practical steps combined with humour and wit, to emphasise each of the steps.
The presentations of his ideas are clear and concise and the book is just as relevant for a student in their teens or a leader in business.
For me the best lessons from the book relate to the management of email. This is one I think most people could use.
I have listened to this book several times. The first time, at a desk hanging on to every syllable. The other times while exercising.
Stever Robbins also delivers the Get-It-Done Guys podcast on the iTunes Store. If you have any doubts about this book, I recommend you listen to the podcast and if his style appeals to you, then get the book.
I +1 Books.
- Many practical tips how to work less.
- Amazing performance by Stever with his stories and his jokes.
- Chapter about Leverage is the best.
Many of us have followed the teachings of David Allen and Stephen Covey for years. Stever Robbins does it one better. He has presented a workable system of life minimization and organization that is so radical it will change your life to truly teach one how to work less and do more. By following this system I am more organized and better on track than I have ever been. I am starting to see the emergence of a very strange thing called "free time". I am not sure what to do with it yet, but it is going to be fun deciding.
What is so enjoyable is he has a great sense of humor in his writing style and a great reading voice. You can hear his enthusiasm. Never have I had so much fun getting organized and in control of my life.
I want to thank the works of Allen and Covey. With my basis in their systems, implementation of Stever???s system was a breeze. My advice is to study other systems of personal management and then go to Stever. When you get here you will see that he truly has it figured out and you will have the skills to implement it.
...now where did I put that zombie reanimation powder? (Read the book and you will understand.)
This book is full of ideas on how to organize and priortize work. True to the title, it's about accomplishing the things that really matter. The narrative by Stever Robbins is upbeat, engaging and kept me laughing. Great examples of the systems in the book make it easy to follow.
I recently decided to switch over to audiobooks. Lately, I've been finding that I don't really have time for anything. I'm staying late at work just to finish off tasks, and I'm not having much of "me" time or with friends. So I decided to take action and purchase this audiobook. A world I dreamed of was what Stever's first words were. I saw myself with everything he said. I'm really good at procrastinating! Really I am! But i don't want to be! After listening to the audiobook, even I, a really good procrastinator became an action orientated person. I finish tasks even if they attempt to intimidate me with their size. I really recommend this audiobook filled with real life tips. Oh and before I forget, his voice is not monotone or boring. To be honest, in parts it's actually funny because of his Bernese (female) voice impersonation.
I have listened to several "Get Organized" books and Get-It-Done-Guy's 9 Steps to Work Less and Do More is by far the easiest to listen to. Stever has a way of presenting useful tips and tricks to help you become more productive without making it a bore to listen to. I actually laughed out loud at times while listening!
Now, I'm addicted to the audiobook. Stever has a very unique style when it comes to relaying information. You have to appreciate his sense of humor (which, fortunately, most office people and entrepreneurs do). I read his book, but I am so glad to also have the audiobook because Stever has a unique way of delivering information that makes you sit up, take heed--all while having fun. Come on--how many productivity books are actually FUN? He makes you WANT to be more productive because he makes the process more entertaining and simple.
This book shows you how to actually tackle everything from the largest to the most trival task possible... I got it all done, had fun doing it because the book is hysterical (making the task seem like less work). Stever has so many tips and tricks to make it all possible!
Thank you Stever!!
Oh I almost forgot... I think your fans Love your work, they really do!! Although I'd never book that trip from here...
"Brilliant and funny organising tool!"
I have been listening to Stever Robbins, Get It Done Guy's podcasts for the last couple of years and when he announced his book was coming out - I was keen to buy.
Not only does Stever offer practical tips to 'work less and do more' but Stever makes you think about why you currently work the way you do and evaluate where you might be wasting time. He also acknowledges that you don't have to change systems regularly to be effectice.
The style is quirky and humorous, I listened on my walk to and from work and often found myself laughing out loud at the examples.
If you like David Allen and want to be more organised - whether at work or at home then this is the book for you.
