Publisher's Summary

Game theory has evolved since its inception. But at its root, it is the modeling of strategic interactions between two or more players where there is a set of rules and outcomes. This basic definition gets to the heart of what game theory is. And this can be applied to almost any situation in your life and your business.

Regardless of your status, as an entrepreneur or a part of the employed, this theory can serve you well. It can help you develop strategic approaches to real-life situations where you predict, with remarkable accuracy, the best possible route towards the best possible outcomes. If you wanted to have a crystal ball, one that helps you predict the future, then game theory would be as close to that crystal ball as you can get in real life!

Game theory and strategy go hand in hand. In fact, they are like the big brother and the little brother of social interaction. Where game theory is the big brother, used to guide you along the way, strategy is the little brother, needing guidance. Strategy cannot exist successfully in the absence of big brother! They, therefore, have a tandem and reciprocal relationship.

    "Excellent Synopsis!"

A concise capture of the breadth of various game theories for busoness application. The summarized approach makes it a good paring with a more detailed writing of the mathematical thepries.

What would have made Game Theory and Strategy Explained better?

Some (any) structure. Some way to actually understand or apply any of the fairly random stream of concepts that the author throws at the reader - almost always without explaining/defining them. Some references to places where you can ACTUALLY learn to apply game theory.

Would you ever listen to anything by Can Akdeniz again?

Certainly not about game theory. There seems to be no depth or applicability to the material here and little helpful structure.I sadly purchased a second book by the same author on a related topic at the same time and it is similarly chaotic. Wish I hadn't.

What three words best describe David Williams’s voice?

    Almost sounds convincing

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It potentially gives you a recognition of some of the concepts so you would recognise them if someone talked about game theory at a party (bluffer value only) It's unintentionally funny at times - like Monty Python's "How to play the flute": You just blow in one end and move your fingers! You get the picture. Hence I laughed out loud several times though probably not where the author intended. The style and performance is quite approachable though hampered by repetition and annoying reminders of how great the author thinks game theory is.

    Any additional comments?

My expectations for a short piece costing a few bucks were not especially high but this really wasn't very good at all. It's most like listening to a talk about game theory tailored for school children. A few vague descriptions and examples of where it can be applied to get kids engaged but no actual details of the maths or models and consequently no actual applicable learning. You just learn some of the words.Buyer beware here ...
