Publisher's summary

The economic and monetary disaster, which seasoned Wall Street prognosticator Peter Schiff warned of in the best-selling first edition of Crash Proof, is no longer hypothetical - it is here today. And while most people believe that the economic collapse is over, the reality is that it has only just begun. That's why he's returned with Crash Proof 2.0.

For more than a decade, Schiff has not only observed the U.S. economy, but also helped his clients restructure their portfolios to reflect his outlook. What he sees today is a nation facing a growing economic storm - brought on by bursting bubbles and growing federal, personal, and corporate debt - that will only continue to intensify as the U.S. government refuses to allow market forces to repair the damage.

Crash Proof 2.0 picks up right where the first edition - which clearly foresaw the bursting of the real-estate bubble, credit crunch, and the insolvency of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac - left off and includes much more up-to-the-minute analysis and advice. This timely guide takes into account the dramatic economic shifts that are reshaping America and provides you with valuable insights that will allow you to protect yourself, as well as prosper, during the difficult times that lie ahead.

Throughout, Schiff explains the factors that will affect your future financial stability - from the bubble in bond prices and collapse of the dollar to surging long-term interest rates and run-away inflation - and offers a specific three-step plan to battle today's economic downturn and tomorrow's market mayhem.

Critic reviews

"Schiff was warning us about our fragile economic foundation long before the first cracks started to appear. There are plenty of market cheerleaders out there, but if you want advice from a market realist who has been proven right again and again, listen to this audiobook." (Glenn Beck)

This is an Eye-Opening Book

The crazy thing about this book is the economic concepts seem so simple and logical yet Wall Street, Politicians and Americans never saw any of this coming (including myself).

The first half of the book does a great job of discussing "Classical Economics" and explains how the US has gotten into the economic situation we are in and what the effect will be going forward. The second part of the book is focused on investing accordingly.

Whether you are an investor or just a student of current economic policy and government I think you will find the book very powerful.

This book is the original book written in 2006 with a lengthy 2009 update at the end of each chapter. DON'T buy Crash Proof 1.0 as you will miss out on all the 2009 updates which are critical.

Long yet incomplete.

The book is generally a bit too long with lots of repetitions and it also treats the economic situations as if it (the book) provides "The right" explanation which seems to be an over simplification of a very complex world.
However, the biggest drawback is that it almost neglects the political side of the story completely! The author draws a picture where things went south because of recklessness, stupidity and mismanagement while ignoring lobbying, agency issues and pure corruption and also pin points solutions ignoring the political/social sides of the dilemma.
For me, books with less economical jargon and more political and "complete picture" approach give a better explanation (like Michael Lewis books or Griftopia or similar ones)

Simply the best book - READ IT!!

This book is excellent! why? - because it explain all about the mess we are in (march of 2010) AND it did so before the economy collapsed. All other books on the great recession is written AFTER the collapse happen. Peter schiff wrote it BEFORE it happen. and explains why. This book changed my life. READ IT!

It's common sense!

Any additional comments?

99 percent of this book made immediate sense to me. I dont like this book because I agree with Schiff........ I like it because he agreed with me! The book is full of analogies that explain things in new ways, and they are all fantastic. The only thing i disagree with schiff about is his timelines. He gives far too much credit to our government. Schiff actually thinks its a possibility that our politicians might (before its too late) decide to confront the crisis head on.Did I mention it was common sense?

P.S. Ignore the inept liberals writing phony reviews on this book. This is not fox news, this is not the republican agenda.

Part history, part advice, part sham

Listen to this book if you want a different perspective on buying and holding stock--if you think the U.S. has seen its last hurrah. Listen to this if you want to understand an alternative view of investing in foreign stocks and gold. Listen to this if you want a long commercial of buying these investments from his firm. It's like listening to a good mechanic tell you what's wrong with the car and then telling you to leave the car with him. You appreciate the advice but wonder if there was an alterior motive. The narration was very good and the book was quite interesting. As a result I will do more research.

Dead on correct

Peter Schiff wrote this in 2006 and nailed the outcome. The 2009 updates provide great insight. This book is still accurate and relevant in 2012. Can't wait to read his new book about to come out.

Very important information

This book is very insightful. Do not buy this book if you've already read "Crash Proof". This is just an update and has 90 percent of the same exact text. Otherwise, anyone who values their financial well being owes it to themselves to read/listen to this book and consider the points made by the author.

A classic

I read this back when it came out and bought the audiobook for a refresher giving our pending place in the economic cycle.

I need to quit buying books with certain narrators. There seem to be a large amount of audible narrators that pronounce wh as the traditional /hw/ instead of the more modern /w/. Like the family guy joke, I can't stand it. So hwen there are sections talking about the hwat and the hwy and hhow things are going and hwere whe are headed, I want to stab my ears with a pencil until I become deaf.

Be Careful Out there

I have read several books on the economy since the 2007-2008 crash. This is very good in that he provides viable suggestions on what may happen and what to do. Now this was written years ago, and Schiff maybe ahead in his predictions. I wish I bought gold when it was $600 or $700/ounce not long ago. Gold is down now, surely will glisten again. The US debt and even that of Europe together with aging populations will cause a deflationary situation that will affect us all. Maybe 2014 is a more optimum time to read this book then on 08 or 09?
