Editorial reviews
Skilled voice actor Christopher Oxford contributes his considerable talents to this straightforward guide sponsored by noted financial publication The Economist.
Jeremy Kourdi’s Business Strategy: The Economist is a dense and comprehensive tome outlining the importance of strategic decision-making for businesses, and recommending techniques and approaches for maximizing the efficacy of said decisions. Kourdi, an acclaimed business consultant, adopts an extremely practical tone in this work, and Oxford’s serious performance is wonderfully well suited to the subject matter. His refined performance only serves to emphasize the practicality of the advice contained within this audiobook.
Publisher's summary
A business's overall strategy may be set at board level, but many people throughout the organisation will be involved in deciding that strategy and implementing it - making decisions that are strategic in nature.
On these decisions hangs the future of the business: how successful it is, even whether it is successful. Yet business history is full of strategic decisions, both big and small, that were weak, poorly conceived and consequently disastrous. This book looks at the whole process of strategic decision-making: the forces that influence decision-makers, the traps they fall into, the times when a rational approach to decision-making is required and those when intuition is needed, the techniques that can help managers reach a strategically sound decision, and the questions they should ask themselves before coming to a decision.By looking at the range of strategic decisions that companies face and the techniques - old and new - that can help, this book provides insights into how to make effective strategic decisions.
Jeremy Kourdi is a freelance writer and business consultant. During his career he has worked with many well-known organisations in the UK and internationally including the Economist, IMD Business School in Lausanne and the Chartered Management Institute. He has an MA in International Relations and is the author of twelve business books and many articles.

If you asked the ancient stoic philosophers how to live a good life, they’d answer you in a single word: Areté. We translate Areté as “virtue” or “excellence” but the word has a deeper meaning—something closer to being your best self moment to moment to moment.

Story
The global financial crisis that erupted in 2008 exposed the flaws in many investment strategies. This book explores the controversies that surround the management of wealth and provides guidance on how to construct investment strategies that are appropriate for each investor. With its detailed analysis, supported by data and anecdotes, it is above all a practical guide. It shows how the insights of behavioural analysis are widely reflected in investor behaviour, while emphasising the importance of basing investment strategy on the principles of traditional finance.

Story
Game theory means rigorous strategic thinking. It’s the art of anticipating your opponent’s next moves, knowing full well that your rival is trying to do the same thing to you. Though parts of game theory involve simple common sense, much is counterintuitive, and it can only be mastered by developing a new way of seeing the world. Using a diverse array of rich case studies - from pop culture, TV, movies, sports, politics, and history - the authors show how nearly every business and personal interaction has a game-theory component to it.

Business Strategy 101
Good, basic business strategy information. Nothing really groundbreaking in the book, but a good starting point for anyone not familiar with running a business or development of business strategy.
