If you already own a smartphone, have logged into Facebook or LinkedIn more than a few times then you may already be beyond this book. If you've spent the last ten years on a desert island and came back to instantly run a company, then this might give you a general sense of how technology is being used by the masses today. I may be overstating this a little, but you get the idea. There is not much information here. I looked up Mr. Shelton on the "cloud", given his career I would have expected more. This is the sort of book I'd expect to result from an author being up against a deadline and forced to write a book off the top of his head over an intense but long weekend effort, no time to check details or get legal review so leave that stuff out to play it safe.
Next I will try "On Top of the Clouds". I was looking for an audio book that would give thoughtful and insightful analysis into the opportunities and challenges at the intersection of technology use trends and business goals. I was looking for compelling data, case studies, detailed and specific examples. This book is too willing to make broad and overly enthusiastic assertions. As a former CEO of a small technology consulting company my expectations might be higher than average, but I really find it hard to imagine who would not be served by a more substantive handling of such a timely subject.
As with nearly all Audible titles I've listened to, the production quality was very good. But the content was disappointing with this specific book.
To be fair, I've only gotten a few chapters into the book. I hate not finishing a book but I am increasingly concerned that listening further will be a bad use of time. If I get to future chapters and find them dramatically better than the first few, I will be happy to revise my assessment. Sorry to be so critical. I usually don't write reviews, but I felt compelled to help others avoid potential disappointment.
Somewhat. I think the author of this book is a thoughtful, but intellectually lazy person, Clearly, he did not have someone pointing out inconsistencies or 'faulty syllogistic conclusions'
I would have had an experienced content-editor assigned to blue and red pencil the manuscript and demand supporting statistics that were NOT 'freely available via google'.
I have not listened to any other of Steven Menasche's audio readings. He is a SUPERB reader on par with Ruby Dee's narration of "Their Eyes Were Watching God". Bravo!
Yes. It inspired me to write a rebuttal. The guy is an ageist of the worst kind.
I've already published my critique of this book in an commercial article, so you 'do not own' any part of my review no matter what your 'conditions of use' stipulate. I would be quite surprised if you published this rather negative review, but I don't care. I've added the author's name to my list of 'never hire' and the narrator's name to my list of 'use this guy whenever possible'.
