Publisher's Summary

Forbes calls this book one of seven books that all entrepreneurs must hear right now (along with Peter Thiel's book and The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People).

In this book you will learn how to get a meeting with anyone. You will learn how to take your career to the next level. You will learn how to reinvent yourself in ways that you never thought was possible! Chris Haroun has had the opportunity in his career to meet with the top CEOs, entrepreneurs and investors in the world, including Warren Buffett, Bill Gates and the CEOs of most large technology companies. This book is an amalgamation of business advice that Chris has compiled from his many meetings with successful business people over the past two decades as well as observations of why brilliant entrepreneurs like Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg have become incredibly successful. Business schools do a good job of providing students with theoretical and practical frameworks that can be applicable to real world problems but business schools often miss teaching students some of the most crucial business lessons like how to network or how to find customers or how to get a job!

Chris Haroun is an award winning business school professor, venture capitalist and author. He is currently a venture capitalist at a prominent San Francisco Bay Area venture capital firm and has previous work experience at Goldman Sachs and several firms that he has founded. He has successfully raised and also has managed over one billion dollars in his career. He has an MBA from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University.

Chris is a frequent guest lecturer at several Bay Area business schools including Berkeley and Stanford. He has written numerous articles and been interviewed in Forbes, VentureBeat, Entrepreneur, Wired and other publications. He serves on the boards of many Bay Area tech companies and lives in Hillsborough, California.

    "Current business student"

Such a great book! I was totally pulled into the book and listened it all of it in one sitting. I stopped it many times and repeated certain lines that stuck out to me. I took notes and really enjoyed the concept of hire slowly and fire quickly. Thanks Chris! I also purchased his MBA program and I am excited to get started on that.

    "Everyone is selling you something"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

The tips were good but not very in-depth. The whole thing sounded more like an advertisement for Mr Haroun's Udemy courses. He repeatedly told the listener to go to Udemy and search for his name to find companion classes for the topic he had just briefed upon.

Would you recommend 101 Crucial Lessons They Don't Teach You in Business School to your friends? Why or why not?

I would recommend it but only if it was cheap.

What about Chris Haroun’s performance did you like?

He did a good job at narrating and making it interesting to listen to. He needs to do some better editing though. He had a few mistakes that he corrected while speaking but it would have been better to do another take and edit out the mistakes completely.

Do you think 101 Crucial Lessons They Don't Teach You in Business School needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No. It is just a list of 101 topics.

"Good Tips, too many shameless plugs"
What made the experience of listening to 101 Crucial Lessons They Don't Teach You in Business School the most enjoyable?

The book gave a good overview of some great business tips. It also did so succinctly without wasting my time. Some tips did seem to be filler content just so the author could reach "101" tips.

    Any additional comments?

The content was good but the constant references to his online courses were irritating. If it weren't for these constant "plugs" I would likely be interested in seeking out the author's other offerings but listening to these plugs was like having commercials in a book which was frustrating.

    "Engaging and practical"

Chris does a great job at summarizing his career and business lessons in 101 short and engaging stories. Besides, his own narration adds a diction only the author can offer to his writing.
The lessons are practical and straight to the point business advices, highly recommended audiobook for (young) career-focused professionals
