Publisher's summary

This remarkable adaptation of the hit television show Broadchurch from Erin Kelly (based on Chris Chibnall series) tells the story of a shattered family, a reeling town, and the two imperfect detectives trying to bring them answers.

In the sleepy British seaside town of Broadchurch, Detective Ellie Miller has just returned from vacation, only to learn that she's been passed over for a promotion at work in favor of outsider Alec Hardy. He, escaping the spectacular failure of his last case, is having trouble finding his way into this tight-knit community wary of new faces. But professional rivalry aside, both detectives are about to receive some terrible news: 11-year-old Danny Latimer has been found murdered on the beach.

For Ellie it's a personal blow; Danny was her older son's best friend. She can't believe anyone in Broadchurch would ever have harmed him. But Alec considers everyone, even Danny's parents, suspect in his death. It's a living nightmare for everyone involved...even before the press arrive and start stirring up the secrets every town member keeps hidden behind closed doors.

Great Writing

this had some of the best writing I have listened to on Audible. As one of other reviewer pointed out, this was made incredibly visual by Erin Kelly. Can't wait to read something else by her

A "who done it", that is a drag

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. It is a little too syrupy with way too possibilities of who "did it". Almost to the point of not having a real plot. I guess I can appreciate the character development and Ms. Pickles performance but the story line was drudgingly hard to get through, for me. More action less soap.

What about Carolyn Pickles’s performance did you like?

Her voice is nice on the ears.

Did Broadchurch inspire you to do anything?

? Sleep?

Basic

Eh. There’s a decent narrator and it’s the type of thing that may hold you attention here and there so I may be taking frustrations out on this one u fairly....but I’m starting to feel a little underestimated as a reader by some of these authors. I love a good mystery/thriller, but the more I listen to, the more I realize good ones are few and far between. at least this one didn’t stick to the dominant theme of a woman everyone thinks is crazy turning out not to be, so that’s a plus at least. But unfortunately - like so many others of the genre - it seems like the author spins a wheel for the secret never before hinted at motives after picking the villain out of a hat. I long for a little more nuance and character development :/

Creepy story that gets better as it goes along

Plot stalls a little in the middle, but the atmosphere is well set. The end is shocking. A good thriller if you like stories that show the dark sides of people.

Follows the television series plus...

This audiobook covers the full series 1 of the Broadchurch television show, plus includes internal character dialogue to flesh out a bit extra. An interesting listen, and at a good pace.

Powerful

Im so glad I finally broke down and got this recording. I put it off since it was written after show completed, but now Im so glad I got it. It defines and deepens the characters in a way not captured on film. Very well written and narrated. Worth it as a stand alone story as well.
If only it had a bit of the soundtrack by Olafur Arnalds to add to the ambience.....

Engaging as the series.

The novel format of this series is inspired. I loved the internal dialogue and felt every gut punch along with the characters.

Loved it.

This was just as good as show. I hope they come out with a second one to follow up on season two. Narrator was great.
