Phenomenal place to start to understand Latin America

An excellent historical overview of Latin America. The performance is pretty good as well as the pronunciation of Spanish names and locations is passable, not nearly as rough as many other audiobooks on this topic. Overall I recommend this title

I think I found a new book for my syllabus

I enjoyed the book and the contemporary history was spot on. I thought it lacked on some racial analysis throughout, however.

Good general history

I thought it was very good and not too complicated. I think my students will get a lot out of it.

A must read for all travelers!

Truly absorbing and sweeping comprehensive history of many aspects of Latin America. Covers everything from Mexico south, except the modern success of Costa Rica specifically.

A Great Introduction to Latin America Post 1st Contact

I found this audiobook very helpful in developing both a comprehensive and individualized
country by country, understanding, of Latin America post European conquest. The historical narrative outlines major events and trends of the 500+ years since that time. The political perspectives are sanguine, and not always what we learned in school growing up in the United States over the past decades, I will probably listen to this once or twice more. The content was first rate and the narration was outstanding.

Excellent synopsis of a very broad history.

Both well performed and written, this book may not be considered unbiased by some but after learning history that was intentionally avoided in my school I suppose its impossible not to feel a bit shocked. Everything was well organized and relevant. I can't say I'd change anything. It gave a lot of information that overlapped with other things I've read lately so now I'm looking forward to reading Open Veins of Latin America as well as several others. I appreciate the narrator a lot as well. He did the reading for another book I listened to and he manages to keep the tone serious without sounding bored, which I think is very hard to do.

Interesting but VERY left leaning

Enjoyed the book and learned a lot of history. But it is so overboard leftist, at a certain point it becomes political. Also not sure that blaming the US for all neo-colonial mishaps is appropriate - the local folks in Latin America had a lot to do with their own juntas and poverty.

okay but naive college freshman's woke understanding of market economics

Good historical coverage but as the narrative moves into the second half of the 20th century it repeats and legitimizes disproved anti capitalism propaganda, calling terrorist acts "spectacular" and praising the likes of Hugo Chavez, while blaming every one of Latin America's woes on the United States. That gets tiresome.

historia lineal y resumida

El libro parece concluir que unicamente la izquierda del siglo XXI fue capaz de empezar a cerrar la brecha social del continente; una conclusión que se queda muy corta de la compleja realidad del continente.
