Publisher's summary

A missing mother. A magical birthright. Can she uncover the secrets of her family legacy before the bloodline runs dry?

My name is Chrystal Dylan, and I was born with the worst superpower ever, a lightning rod for supernatural energy that attracts vampires like catnip to feed from. Nothing like being an all-you-can-eat buffet, until one decided to “save” me from that fate by triggering my transition into the very thing killing me.

Considering that was the least of my problems, I have a Council looking to eliminate all anomalies threatening to expose them to the human world, it just so happens that I’m one of them, and so is my best friend, Victor. I won’t go down without some answers, including what they did with my mom.

Blood Crescent is the first novel in the exhilarating Divine series of paranormal fantasies. If you like hidden magical realms, fresh new takes on vampire lore, and heartfelt journeys of self-discovery, then you’ll love Stevie McCoy’s spellbinding coming-of-age tale.

Good read.

My first time listening to a fantasy book. I’m looking forward to seeing where this story goes in book 2 and 3. Not a fan of the narrator but I enjoyed the book.

:-)

I sure wasn’t expecting that ending but I need to hear the next part of the story. I won’t lie about the character pissing me off at some of her decisions but I’m hoping to get more information in part two of the series. I can’t stop listening to it. I enjoyed the story but I need more.

Hard to follow

This story was hard to follow. The premise was interesting, but it was never made clear WHAT Chrystal was - a cyborg? a vampire? I had no idea. There were so many scenes that just seemed like a drug trip - either she was hallucinating or dreaming or someone was sucking her memories away. And the dialogue felt disconnected, like characters were just saying vague, ominous things to one another that made no sense and was never explained.

Right when I was about to get on board with Victor and Chrystal, a new mysterious guy was introduced, and the insta-love was shoved so hard on the reader that it made it difficult to keep reading. Plus, Chrystal is kind of a feeble heroine who just lets things happen to her instead of taking action herself. I felt like I was reading a story about a clueless girl who was just along for the ride.

The narrator did an excellent job. The characters each had distinct voices, and the narration was easy to follow and understand.

The author is a stellar writer, and I love the way she writes her descriptions. She has a great flow with words. And the unique concept of vampires was refreshing and fascinating. But the plot and characterization just didn't work for me.

YA Paranormal Fantasy

Blood Crescent by S.M. McCoy is a YA paranormal fantasy that I listened to on audio narrated by Tara Marie Kirk. This is the first book in the Divine Series.

The book was an interesting read. Chrystal has a lot going on at 15 years old as she tries to find out what happened to her mother, while discovering that she has a magical roll to play in a prophecy.

I am a little torn on this book because overall it was a good story. The book kept me guessing what would happen next. But, I felt that some sections were hard to follow.

The book does end on an interesting cliffhanger that I didn't see coming.

Tara did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of her work in the future.

A good story with about the supernatural

This story starts off kind of slow, it takes a few chapters to get the characters developed but then it really takes off. It kept me on my toes wondering who was actually friend or foe for Chrystal and trying to figure out if Chrystal was more then just ordinary. The narrator does pretty well and I dont remember any mistakes so thats always a plus.

Interesting but confusing

It's an interesting take to paranormal stories but it was confusing and hard to keep up with characters. Narrator voice is smooth and nice. Overall it was an okay story.
