Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2014 - Following in the footsteps of best friend, former SNL cast mate, and improv partner Tina Fey, Amy Poehler is releasing her first book – and I couldn't be more excited! The much anticipated Yes Please could not come any sooner for me after completing Tina Fey's Bossypants, Mindy Kaling's Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, and Nick Offerman's Paddle Your Own Canoe - each of which praises Poehler for her witty, charming, and brazen attitude. With an ensemble cast of excellent narrators joining her (Seth Meyers, Carol Burnett, and Patrick Stewart, to name a few), this book is shaping up to be yet another hit for the hilarious Amy Poehler. I can’t wait to listen! Rob, Audible Editor

Don't miss this collection of stories, thoughts, ideas, lists, and haikus from the mind of one of our most beloved entertainers. Offering Amy's thoughts on everything from her "too safe" childhood outside of Boston to her early days in New York City, her ideas about Hollywood and "the biz", the demon that looks back at all of us in the mirror, and her joy at being told she has a "face for wigs" - Yes Please is chock-full of words, and wisdom, to live by.

Critic reviews

"Actress and comedian Amy Poehler's memoir is full of charm and life lessons, but what's REALLY fun is how out of the box the audiobook production is. Listeners know they're getting something special, unique, and a bit absurd right from the start when Poehler claims to be narrating from her own personal audio booth, built at the base of Mt. Rushmore. Poehler sounds consistently warm, funny, and genuine, and it's only a matter of time before she'll have you laughing out loud. When she's joined in "her" studio by Seth Meyers and Mike Schur to reminisce about Saturday Night Live and Parks and Recreation, it sounds like we're overhearing candid (and giggly) conversations between friends. Cameos from Carol Burnett, Kathleen Turner, Patrick Stewart (intoning strange haikus), and even Amy's parents add even more flavor. What a treat." ( AudioFile)

One of the best audio books I've listened to yet

If you could sum up Yes Please in three words, what would they be?

Powerful, emotional, truthful

Who was your favorite character and why?

Amy Poehler gives you a look into her over 40 years of life, her ups and downs, along with a lot of truth and great lessons.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Amy Poehler was excellent, her range of emotion, different accents, stories, and various other nuances were very well received.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A different way of telling about ones life.

Any additional comments?

This audio book was great. I enjoyed listening to it so much. I was almost brought to tears more than once. Amy Poehler along with cast of thousands told her life story and gave you great lessons to go along with it. The thought that you shouldn't want something so bad, because in the long run you won't get it, really hit home with me. I love this book and think a lot of people should get it and enjoy the funniness, and outright reality of everything she has to say.

Funny Lady, light hearted, but meaningful and relevant

Such a wonderful woman, cool, funny, laid back, and smart. Swoon. Would love to meet her one day.

Amy P is the bizzie

Would you consider the audio edition of Yes Please to be better than the print version?

I have not had the joy of reading the print version. However, I have a feeling that a small portion of the audio version was adlibbed and not included in the print version.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It was awesome to have a cast of people stop by to read from Amy's book. The music, adlibbing, live audience, and laughter was also entertaining.

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend Yes Please. It was a refreshing, funny, and lighthearted read, sprinkled with a couple of teary life lessons. I have always been a fan of strong woman who get stuff done, so naturally I have gravitated toward Amy Poehler over years and held her in high regard. Listening to Yes Please has reaffirmed to me she is not only a comedic genius, but a wonderful human. So don't think about it and just listen to it.

Bright and Clever

She takes the charisma used to play Leslie Knope from Parks into a charming slice of life. Loved it. Had to buy my friend a hard copy too, to share a laugh or ten.

she is so funny and normal, that after reading....

you feel like you've gained a new friend. Amy reminds me of early autobiographies of Shirley MacLaine and lauren bacall.....Funny how the first is auto corrected and the second isnt!

I love you, Amy!

I am so glad I got the audible version of the book and was able to hear the author deliver her quirky and real stories just the way I had hoped she would. I found her very relatable and honest. This book has not only stories from Amy's life and career, but also great advice for women, and just anyone with a dream. Thank you for being you, Amy!

Fun and lively

This book is a must listen to. I heard it is much better than reading the actual book because it's read by the author and additional voices. This adds an unusual and entertaining piece to the book! It was hilarious!
