Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2014 - Following in the footsteps of best friend, former SNL cast mate, and improv partner Tina Fey, Amy Poehler is releasing her first book – and I couldn't be more excited! The much anticipated Yes Please could not come any sooner for me after completing Tina Fey's Bossypants, Mindy Kaling's Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, and Nick Offerman's Paddle Your Own Canoe - each of which praises Poehler for her witty, charming, and brazen attitude. With an ensemble cast of excellent narrators joining her (Seth Meyers, Carol Burnett, and Patrick Stewart, to name a few), this book is shaping up to be yet another hit for the hilarious Amy Poehler. I can’t wait to listen! Rob, Audible Editor

Critic reviews

"Actress and comedian Amy Poehler's memoir is full of charm and life lessons, but what's REALLY fun is how out of the box the audiobook production is. Listeners know they're getting something special, unique, and a bit absurd right from the start when Poehler claims to be narrating from her own personal audio booth, built at the base of Mt. Rushmore. Poehler sounds consistently warm, funny, and genuine, and it's only a matter of time before she'll have you laughing out loud. When she's joined in "her" studio by Seth Meyers and Mike Schur to reminisce about Saturday Night Live and Parks and Recreation, it sounds like we're overhearing candid (and giggly) conversations between friends. Cameos from Carol Burnett, Kathleen Turner, Patrick Stewart (intoning strange haikus), and even Amy's parents add even more flavor. What a treat." ( AudioFile)

Great book by Amy

I love Amy Poehler, I enjoyed listening to her book narrated by her. The showbiz chapter was kind of boring, but the rest is pretty cool.

This is a must-listen - do this one on audiobook!

Any additional comments?

Amy is fun and quirky (as you'd expect), humble and vulnerable (as I had hoped). Loved the guest voices too!

If you love Amy Poehler, you'll enjoy this...

If you love Amy Poehler, then you'll enjoy many of the anecdotes and personal stories and memories she shares. But be prepared for certain moments where it's more like detailed rambling than it is a good, descriptive preamble to a good story. She does mention how hard it is to write a book. So I think she approached writing this as honestly as possible, you take it for what it's worth. I gave it a good rating because of these reasons, because I'm biased toward Amy Poehler, and that's why I wrote the headline that I did. ;)

Funny if you like SNL

If you could sum up Yes Please in three words, what would they be?

Biography funny cheesy

What did you like best about this story?

Learning Amy's personal experiences and perspectives on things she has been through

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

Amy herself!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Laughing about her use of phones near the end of the book and her admiration for her passions and children. She is very humble for everything she has worked for in her life.

Any additional comments?

I didn't identify with much of the SNL humour as it isn't my style but an interesting read anyways!

Outstanding.

Loved it and am sad it is over. This book (and Amy's reading of it) is incredibly funny, warm, authentic, touching, and just overall stellar.

Seriously, this is not my first audio book, and I just can't say enough how great it is to experience. I have convinced a friend of mine to purchase and listen to it, despite her having already read and loved the paper version.

This book transformed my 90 minute daily commute from the Bain of My Existence.... (for realz) to a time I look forward to and relished.

Nailed it!

Just what I needed

I listened to this book while on a weekend trip to Chicago. I was on my way to an audition and so I was hopeful, I totally bombed and didn't get a call back so I was blue, I was wandering the streets so I was pensive and inspired. What a perfect companion, friend, and mentor Amy was through this! No matter where you are at your walk of life-- this book will make you laugh, cry, think, and live.
Thank you Amy! You rock!

Phenomenal

Amy surpassed every expectation I had for this book. Her delivery is warm and comfortable, the guest voices were great. She is not a narrator but a story teller during this performance. I loved every minute.

Audible It!

If you could sum up Yes Please in three words, what would they be?

In my opinion, this book would not be nearly as interesting reading it versus listening to Amy Poehler read it herself.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

I liked hearing her own voice and the guests were a great addition.
