As a long time Wrestling fan, now at the age of 42, I have seen my fair share of matters. I have gone through the phase a brand-new naïve and thinking about all of this was real. Real meaning not scripted. I was wrapped up in the excitement of the matches screening and chanting until I lost my voice. As I grew older I learned to appreciate the psychology of a match, the tempo, working the crowd, etc. It was in the latter phase that I became more interested in the personalities in the behind the scenes lives of the wrestlers. This book was right up the alley. As a Catholic, it was interesting to hear about the transformation in the inclusion of God on their lives. Thank you for a very good listen.
This book exceeded my expectations. Such a great listen to hear a man spill his guts out and just be honest about personal issues he's had and sometimes he still struggles with. This is the kind of book that will make you strive to be a better man, and not in the whole bible bashing way......just in
the way of trying to be a decent human being whatever faith or beliefs you may have. MUST READ.
The book was excellent, full of relatable stories and struggles that make a legend seem like the guy next door. The problem is the reader. He did a fine job but he isn't Shawn. We know Shawn's voice and it was hard to get past that it wasn't his voice telling his stories. If Shawn read this, this would be 5 stars across the board.
"Wrestling for my life"
In general I really enjoyed this. The book is centered around his Christian faith and how he feels this has affected every area of his life. There are plenty of wrestling anecdotes to enjoy. The reader was very good but It would have been preferable if the author had read it himself as it was obvious in certain places that the reader wasn't familiar with the subject.
"way too much god"
if you want to know about Shawn Michael's faith this is for you. His wrestling career is covered lightly but never to the depths wrestling fans who aren't interested in his faith would want.
"wrestling for my life review"
I enjoyed the bible quotes i'll read up on some more didn't like the old man narration though
"A Showstopper of a Story of Finding Faith"
I am a wrestling fan. A Shawn Michaels fan. I have a faith. This story is one that many newcomers to faith or for those who wer brought up with one and lost touch with it will inspire them to at least take steps again to find it. It massively helps if you are a wrestling fan and know the wrestling career of Shawn Michaels but if you know nothing of him simply understand he took many wrong paths but found his faith and is doing his best to walk in faith. The narrator has a good voice and i listened mostly in car or in bed so dropped off a few times. However he didnt seem like he knew what he was talking about or even read the book before he read it out loud. That being said this book has empowered me to take steps to finding my faith again and if Shawn Michaels can do it after the life he led and lead a life of love, commitment, integrity and inspire others then maybe I can tag team with Jesus and kick the sins from my life.
"I found this book to be poorly read and boring"
I found the narrator boring, old sounding and occasionally like he was drunk. It was very annoying and did not sound at all professional. The book is not a wrestling book, and although I can't fault the content for its honesty and the fact that it focuses on life and faith, I think if you are after pure wrestling stories this may not be for you. Based upon the focus not being wrestling (which is emphasised by shawn to be fair), but more so the awful reading, I cannot finish this book beyond chapter 5.
grew up watching this guy, he is a real witness to his faith. it's been great listening to his story and how he got his life back on track
"Obscure vocal choice"
It's obviously a different take on a different point in Shawn's life, but not my favourite.
I was a bigger fan of the wrestling references than the story of his faith, but I did understand that was the purpose of the book.
I wasn't a fan of the reader. A very heavily accented voice, and considering the book is largely written in the first person, it grated.
No. It felt incredibly long to listen to.
I may have preferred the physical book.
great book. good to listen to the real story of shaun micheals. a def good read
"Heart break kid"
Very interesting story from start to finish inspirational quotes a hero in and out of the ring
"The great American bible bash"
Good read but this not a wrestling group. Believe me when I say it has a "STRONG" religious undertone.
