Publisher's summary

What does it really mean to be a good father? What did your father tell you that has stayed with you throughout your life? Was there a lesson from him, a story, or a moment that helped to make you who you are? Is there a special memory that makes you smile when you least expect it?

After the publication of Tim Russert's #1 New York Times best seller about his father, Big Russ & Me, he received an avalanche of letters from daughters and sons who wanted to tell him about their own fathers, most of whom were not superdads or heroes but ordinary men who were remembered and cherished for some of their best moments, of advice, tenderness, strength, honor, discipline, and occasional eccentricity.

Most of these daughters and sons were eager to express the gratitude they had carried with them through the years. Others wanted to share lessons and memories and, most important, pass them down to their own children.

This book is for all fathers, young or old, who can learn from the men in these pages how to get it right, and to understand that sometimes it is the little gestures that can make the big difference for your child. For some in this book, the appreciation came later than they would have liked. But as Wisdom of Our Fathers reminds us, it is never too late to embrace it.

From the father who coached his daughter in sports (and life), attending every meet, game, performance, and tournament, to the daughter who, after a 15-year estrangement, learned to make peace with her difficult father just before he died, to the son who came, at last, to appreciate the silent way his father could show affection, Wisdom of Our Fathers shares rewarding lessons, immeasurable gifts, and lasting values.

Memories I wish I had.

I don't have memories of my father but I find it very easy to live through the memories of the stories told in this book. As I approach becoming a father for the first time at 44 I find myself urning for the closeness of these stories. I pray that my son or daughter will have the respect for me because of the way I raised them, This book is helping become the father I always wish I had.

I loved this book. The narrators are great, and I love it when the author reads part of the book. Great book to have in the car...by the time I got to work or came back home, I felt like I had my priorities all rearranged. very moving and entertaining.

I was deeply moved by this book

I listened to it only weeks after the author died so prematurely. I loved him on "Meet the Press" and love him more after reading this wonderfully moving story of fathers and sons and daughters. It is touching and humorous and it was spooky and yet uplifing listening to Russert's voice after he had passed away.

Excellent!

Now I want to read the first book. My wife and I were greatly moved by the stories that Tim shares with the reader. A good "feel good" collection of experiences and insights. As a relatively young father, I appreciate the role models - my father is also an excellent role model. I realize that the era was different from the one in which I find myself, but there are many excellent principles even for today.

a nice listen

With stories ranging from heart warming to heart breaking, Mr. Russert shares his readers relationships with their fathers. "Chicken Soup for the Soul" readers should find this and enjoyable listen.

Boy, do I miss Tim Russert

What a comfort to hear this excellent man narrate this book. The country misses him so much! I shed quite a few tears listening. Still many contemporary messages!

Insufferable

A phony, saccharine account of the santitized American fathering that shoves the dysfunction and power obsessed American patriarchy that puts the Taliban to shame. As if American mercenaries haven't shaped the excesses of the worst examples of toxic payriarchy that includes the famed Taliban, Nazis, Narcos, etc.
