Publisher's summary

Six-time Emmy Award-winning funnyman Tim Conway, best known for his characters on The Carol Burnett Show, offers a straight-shooting and hilarious memoir about his life on stage and off as an actor and comedian. In television history, few entertainers have captured as many hearts and made as many people laugh as Tim Conway.

There's nothing in the world that Tim Conway would rather do than entertain - and in his first-ever memoir, What's So Funny?, that's exactly what he does. From his pranks in small Ohio classrooms to his performances on national television and movies, Tim has been cracking people up for more than seventy years. Long regarded as one of the funniest comedians around, Tim also boasts an inspiring rags-to-riches story.

What's So Funny? captures Tim's journey from life as an only child raised by loving but outrageous parents in small-town Ohio during the Great Depression, to his tour of duty in the Army - which would become training for his later role in McHale's Navy - to his ascent as a national star and household name. By tracing his early path, this audiobook reveals the origins of many of Tim's unforgettable characters - from Mr. Tudball and the Oldest Man to Mickey Hart to everyone's favorite, Dorf.

What's So Funny? shares the hilarious accounts of the glory days of The Carol Burnett Show and his famous partnerships with entertainment greats like Harvey Korman, Don Knotts, Dick Van Dyke, Betty White, Vicki Lawrence, Bob Newhart, and of course, Carol Burnett. As a bonus, listeners will enjoy never-before-shared stories of hilarious behind-the-scenes antics on McHale's Navy and The Carol Burnett Show.

One of the GREATS!!

Even better than I had expected. Tim did a great job in writing this. I was slightly disappointed that he didn't read it himself, but I found that the narrator did a great job anyway. He has a similar voice at least & did a great job relaying the story. There was no doubt in my mind that Tim had a F-U-N life with all his comedian friends, but this story confirms that as well as his family life & upbringing. A true legend and part of such a genius comedic team when I was a kid!!

I love Tim Conway!

I used to watch Tim on the Carol Burnette show as a kid along with the rest of my family. He was and still is an amazing comedic presence.
I enjoyed every second of this book and I know I will listen to it many more times.
Thank you Tim.

Very Enjoyable, so many fun antics!

I'm so glad I read this. Conway gas always been a favorite of mine, even though much of his work was before my time. I did get to see him when he toured with Harvey Korman in the 90s, and boy it was fun.

He makes comedy seem effortless. His autobiography/memoir was both heartfelt and full of chuckles. I enjoyed every minute of it, from the story of him rolling out if the baptismal manger, to his first steps in his career, touching stories of his family, to his accounts of cracking everyone up on the Burnett Show. My favorite anecdotes included: Don Knotts at the cowboy bar; his re telling of the dentist sketch; his horse racing attempt; and pretty much every antic in the final chapter - elephants, plaid, lions, mummies and all. There were so many good times recounted, I laughed to myself frequently (and got a stare or two when it was in public, but I couldn't care). He has such a wonderful gift, to give laughter the way he does. I now feel the urge to watch every youtube clip of 'the oldest man' and Dorf, to keep the laughs going.

I knew from the moment I heard Carol Burnett's intro that I was in for a great time. I hadn't realized that Conway was dyslexic, but in that case it made sense that he didn't narrate this himself (he does give an opening and closing). I was a bit wary of hearing him speak through another, but I think Dick Hill captured his essence and did the job well.

American icon

A throw back to when comics didn't need to be vulgar or raunchy to be entertaining. God broke the mode when he made this lunatic.
What a treasure.

Warm, witty and full of humor

If you could sum up What's So Funny? in three words, what would they be?

A great listen.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

The narrator did a great job. Wonderful voice and easy to listen to.

Any additional comments?

A great book that allows you to enjoy a truly funny man who is a great human being. Many stories about some of the great names in comedy. And to think he is still going strong. I can remember many of the shows he talks about and see them in my mind's eye. I also learned about several actors I am not as familiar with .

Lighthearted entertainment

I love every anecdote in this book and I love Tim Conway, but the narrator was monotone and it was difficult to laugh. If Mr. Conway had read it himself, I would have laughed out loud. The forwards by Carol Burnett and Jane Scovall hilarious! Buy the hardcover and read it with Mr. Conway's voice in your head.

Good for the heart

After Reading Carol Burnett's last book I needed to read this one. The man is charming through and through. I truly wish I had known him. His humble beginnings were a revelation to me. This book will have you laughing as you walk into stores, or watch horse racing. love this guy and am glad he wrote this book.
