Publisher's summary

Six-time Emmy Award-winning funnyman Tim Conway, best known for his characters on The Carol Burnett Show, offers a straight-shooting and hilarious memoir about his life on stage and off as an actor and comedian. In television history, few entertainers have captured as many hearts and made as many people laugh as Tim Conway.

There's nothing in the world that Tim Conway would rather do than entertain - and in his first-ever memoir, What's So Funny?, that's exactly what he does. From his pranks in small Ohio classrooms to his performances on national television and movies, Tim has been cracking people up for more than seventy years. Long regarded as one of the funniest comedians around, Tim also boasts an inspiring rags-to-riches story.

What's So Funny? captures Tim's journey from life as an only child raised by loving but outrageous parents in small-town Ohio during the Great Depression, to his tour of duty in the Army - which would become training for his later role in McHale's Navy - to his ascent as a national star and household name. By tracing his early path, this audiobook reveals the origins of many of Tim's unforgettable characters - from Mr. Tudball and the Oldest Man to Mickey Hart to everyone's favorite, Dorf.

What's So Funny? shares the hilarious accounts of the glory days of The Carol Burnett Show and his famous partnerships with entertainment greats like Harvey Korman, Don Knotts, Dick Van Dyke, Betty White, Vicki Lawrence, Bob Newhart, and of course, Carol Burnett. As a bonus, listeners will enjoy never-before-shared stories of hilarious behind-the-scenes antics on McHale's Navy and The Carol Burnett Show.

Narrating was the downside

Narrating was not riveting and took away from part of the finished product. Required more energy.

Funny man, very funny final third of his book

I've always loved Tim Conway and the "awkward", bumpkin'ish nature of his humor. He is a uniquely talented comedian. I must confess though that the first two thirds of his book were a bit slow and took some effort to get through. Once he gets to the part about joining the Carol Burnett Show however, it became a true joy, with several laugh out loud moments.
Narrator Dick Hill did his usual great job with the story and any fan of Tim, Carol or Harvey Korman would love the last several hours of this book. Overall, a slow beginning, but the end made it all worthwhile.

Going to read this one...

I bought this audiobook, looking forward to the narration by Tim Conway. He has always been one of the funniest people I know. I loved watching him and Harvey do their skits on the Burnett show, and everything else he has done. However, his voicing of this book was not what I expected. It sounded so scripted and in a completely "non-Conway" voice, that I couldn't finish it. I didn't want to read this book that way. I'm sure that I will like the content, but I am going to be reading it myself, rather than listening to Tim read it.

Love it!

Tim Conway is hilarious and I enjoyed every minute of the book! I love when the celebrity reads their own book, it makes it so much more enjoyable.

It's just okay

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I love Tim Conway. My mother is long deceased, but I'll always remember his work and the fun I had with my mom watching him on The Carol Burnett Show.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Tim, who else?

Would you listen to another book narrated by the narrators?

Tim's delivery seemed stilted and forced. I don't know why.

Do you think What's So Funny? needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Again, I love Tim Conway, but I'm not sure I'd read another book of his. I enjoyed the book, there were funny stories, but I don't think I'd rush to read another.

Any additional comments?

One take away from this book is Tim Conway is a happy individual who enjoys his life to the fullest. He took some hard knocks in his life, but always managed to find happiness no matter what cards he was dealt. All of us could take a page from Conway's playbook.

excellent book

Excellent book. However, it's rather dishonest to put Tim's name first as reader, since he's only here for a few seconds before handing off to another (very good) reader. Also, as a Disney fan, I wish there'd be more about his Disney films. Much as I like The Carol Burnett Show, it's not THE first thing that comes to mind when I think of Tim. That would be Apple Dumpling Gang and Gus. But that's just me, probably.

Tim talking about Tim

Where does What's So Funny? rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The best autobiography by far.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but have seen hundreds. No one could do this better.

Any additional comments?

Tim Conway talking about his life and family was worth every minute and penny spent.
