Publisher's summary

There’s more to winning battles than fists and feet

For world-renowned professional fighter Georges St-Pierre, the greatest asset is not physical strength or athleticism - it’s a sense of purpose. From his beginnings as a small, mercilessly bullied child first discovering karate to his years as a struggling garbage collector who spent all his free time in the gym, his hard-fought rise in the sport of mixed martial arts, and his long, painful recovery from a career-threatening injury, Georges never lost sight of his ambition to become the greatest martial artist of all time. In The Way of the Fight, Georges for the first time reveals what propelled him not only to become a champion but to embrace obstacles as opportunities to build character.

Georges’ story is interwoven with fascinating insights from those who know him best: his mother, who tells of his drive to master new skills, even as a child. His mentor Kristof Midoux, who describes a young fighter with an extraordinary sense of discipline. His Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teacher John Danaher, who witnessed the development of an indomitable work ethic. His coach Firas Zahabi, who worked alongside the champion through a potentially career-ending injury. And his longtime friend, training partner and manager, Rodolphe Beaulieu, who may understand this intensely focused athlete more than anyone.

The Way of the Fight is an inspirational look into the mindset of a master. To Georges, all life is competition, and there’s no more perfect metaphor for competition than the life of a fighter. He explains the value of discipline, risk and even fear, with the wisdom of one who knows that nothing is assured - his next fight could always be his last. Drawing inspiration from fighting legends, Eastern philosophy and a trusted inner circle, The Way of the Fight is a powerful, life-changing guide to living with purpose and finding the way to accomplish your loftiest goals.

Great! Great Book

This book is outstanding a lot of ways particularly in how it dispenses with advice. George is a very intelligent athlete and a class act all around. The story of his life is very interesting. What I found particularly useful was the talks he gave about fear and anxiety. The only shortcoming of this book I can point to is the abysmal narration. Many a great book on audible has been ruined by a subpar narrator and this book almost fell into that category. However. I think the book is well worth your time to listen to and I think you'll enjoy greatly.

No real substance.

The book feels like a long advertisement of how great George is. It is packed with interviews from his trainers and others singing his praises. I have always been a fan of George but this book lacks depth.

Filled with cliches and abrupt interruptions

Each chapter interrupted by a third person over and over. Too many cliches for my taste too. I feel like the book doesn't have much depth. You probably should have interest in fighting beforehand otherwise the long winded descriptions of his career will be dull. The third person interruptions are demoralizing. You want George to continue on a train of thought and just when it's getting good his trainer or mother cuts him off with some unrelated information.

A must listen for MMA fighters and avid fans

We learn a lot about how he trains, what his strategies and tactics are, what his philosophy on fighting (and life) is. George comes across as intelligent and thoughtful. It's hard not to root for him. The problem, for me, is I wanted to learn more about George. He doesn't offer much beyond the fact that he was bullied as a kid, has supportive parents, and has a good group of people around him.

GSP on how to be a winner!

Would you listen to Way of the Fight again? Why?

I would listen to parts of the book. Martial Artist will be able to relate to many of the story and incites addressed in this book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

GSP and his 2 fight coaches.

What about Eric Stone’s performance did you like?

Yes the narration reminded me of GSP and his french accent. So the story sounded like it GSP himself.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Towards the end he talked about over-training. Many martial artist and athletes will be able to identify with this section and the final epilogue was very good.

Any additional comments?

Good book and a good read.

A book all young men and fighters should read

GSP is the greatest MMA fighter of all time. He is the definition of a warrior and winner.

Many may say Jon Jones is the best and he would’ve been in my opinion if he had the focus GSP did.

What struck me was the vulnerability of GSP and how he came from such humble beginnings. He said his fear is what made him strong- he tapped into it instead of running away from it.

I enjoyed learning about the legend and legacy of GSP. He no doubt left a un-erasable mark on karate and MMA. He will never be forgotten!

Longue vie à Georges Saint-Pierre!

Wisdom

This book was very transparent and truly shows how people should respect themselves. Know thyself. Great book and this is definitely a champion mindset.
