Publisher's Summary

Matt and Liz Logelin were high-school sweethearts. The pair settled together in Los Angeles and they had it all: the perfect marriage, a beautiful new home, and a baby girl on the way. But just 27 hours after they welcomed Madeline into the world, Liz suffered a pulmonary embolism and instantly died, without ever holding the daughter whose arrival she had so eagerly awaited.

Faced with devastating grief and the responsibilities of a new and single father, Matt coped by returning to the small blog he had created to keep friends and family updated on Liz's pregnancy, which today has become a place for him to share with over a million curious readers the day-to-day of two lives bound by loss and love.

But there is more to his story than just raising a daughter alone: Matt Logelin is an extraordinary human being. Having been sustained through tragedy by the kindness and generosity of strangers, he is now dedicated to helping others in difficult situations by reaching out and inspiring those facing loss or adversity.

A heartwarming and heartbreaking story punctuated by beautifully recollected - and often humorous - memories and anecdotes, Two Kisses for Maddy unquestionably has something to offer any listener who has experienced grief, and has sought the courage to live again.

"Recommended by my wife... ended up loving it!"

This was a book that my wife had been talking about for weeks before the release date. I decided early on that I wouldn't be listening to it since our taste for good books has always been very different. Then one night after getting up to care for my crying 2 year old boy I decided to give it a try and see if it would help me fall asleep. After the first 10 minutes I was totally engaged and I listened intently to this story of love, loss and motivation to live. I continued listening for the next two hours and finally fell asleep at chapter 12. Excellent book! Life changing... just like my wife says. I especially appreciate the author's honest description as he retells the events.

    "F**k - too much"

I understand that is the language he uses, heck I use it, but most of the time it didn't fit, it was like he was trying to force it in. Cute story about a dad figuring out fatherhood on his own and doing a pretty good job at it.

    Story
    "Moving story but mediocre book"
Would you try another book from Matthew Logelin and/or Matthew Logelin?

    no

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

    tears!

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

    Articulate.

    Any additional comments?

It's hard to be critical- obviously the story is tragic. No denying. But Matt himself says he's not a writer, and I hate to say it, but you can tell. Again, the story? Very moving. But the book itself is eh. I didn't think it was written well. I was pretty bored along the way. Also he narrates the book himself, and he didn't articulate very well, and that got annoying. Some of the words, when he was reading, got a little mushed and for someone who's a big audiobook listener, was a turn-off.
Overall I think his writing style is better suited to his blog (which I've read). The story is very touching and moving, and it's evident he and his wife had a beautiful life together before the tragedy, but overall I wouldn't really recommend the book.
Couple of additional points-- he curses a lot, and I get it- to a point. But seriously, 6 hours of f*ck and p**sy had me burned out. It was overkill and I think detracted a little.
Also randomly, the audiobook had these strange music cues just sort of stuck in there. They didn't seem to break up the chapters or parts of the book. Just out of the blue there would be some music, then right back to the book. Confusing and I didn't get why that was there.

    Any additional comments?

This was a sad story about the loss of a spouse. While I can empathize with Mr. Logelin's loss, the story as written is very repetitive and a bit cloying.

    Story
    "Beautiful and Heartbreaking"
Would you consider the audio edition of Two Kisses for Maddy to be better than the print version?

I never touched the print version. But having Matthew narrate his story was an amazing experience. Anytime his voice cracked or focused on a specific story it made the story so personal. It was beautiful.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Two Kisses for Maddy?

I knew the overall story (the tragedy) but I really enjoyed getting a grasp on his wife as his wife. At the beginning of the book he really let you connect to Liz as he did.

Have you listened to any of Matthew Logelin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I never heard him before but again I appreciated having him take me on this journey.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Onward

    Any additional comments?

I visited Matthew's blog multiple times throughout the time I read his book. And I am inspired to look into his non-profit. I felt honored to learn about his wife.
