Publisher's summary

The same vulnerable but invincible spirit that captured our hearts in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes comes of age in 'Tis.

Listen as Frank tells in his own inimitable voice his story of how at the age of 19 he traveled from Limerick to New York in pursuit of the American dream. Despite the abundance of unsolicited advice he gets to "join the cops" and "stick to his own kind", Frank knows that he should educate himself and somehow rise above his circumstances.

And though he left school at 14, he talks his way into New York University, falls in love with the quintessential Yankee, long-legged and blond, and tries to live his dream. But it is not until he starts to teach - and to write - that Frank finds his place in the world. And for those of us who are lucky enough to come across his writings - and captivating readings - 'Tis a wonderful thing that he did.

Genuine Irish brogue.

It would have been an injustice if anyone else had narrated this book. I found myself laughing, smiling and thinking about my Swedish emigrant grandparents all the way to work and back. Loved his writing style, the repetition of phrases was hilarious and poignant.

I wish I knew Frankie McCourt

I love all his books. Awesome story teller and I wish I knew him or was a student in one of his classes.

One of My All Time Favorite Authors

Angela's Ashes blew me away. It was such an incredibile book, one of my favorite memoirs. Maybe I have a sick sense of humor but so much of that book made me laugh hysterically. But it was very, very sad as well.

The follow-up, Tis, is a wonderful continuation of his autobio. Mr. McCourt was a brilliant storyteller who didn't become famous until shortly before his death, unfortunately. He could relate the saddest story and somehow find a glimpse of humor somewhere to delight the reader. I laughed so much reading his three books,( Teacher Man being the third) even though there was a lot that wasn't at all funny about his life.

Tis continues his story as he embarks on adulthood. More obstacles, more challenges for a bright and ambitious young man, usually down on his luck but always moving forward.
He seemed as surprised as I was that he got as far as he did in life given the unfathomable circumstances of his upbringing

I loved this man and was so saddened to hear of his death. He had so much more to write about.

To sweeten the pot, he had the most adorable Irish brogue. I never get tired of hearing him.

Humor can be found in the oddest places…

Frank McCourt proves you can find humor in the worst possible situations. I love how he wrote. I love how he read his writing. I was sad when it was over. I’m even sadder that he wrote no more books in his life time….

Enjoyable and Funny

I have to admit I didn't LOVE this audiobook as much as Angela's Ashes! However, I liked it and still enjoy his sense of humor. I plan to listen to his third and final audiobook, Teacher Man.

Simple and Fascinating

I enjoy Franks‘ storytelling, accent, and perspective on simple and natural events in his life. The idealist in me wanted everything to be fine and turn out well, but that’s not true life. I listened to “Angela’s Ashes “ and “Tis“ back to back, and am glad I did. The two books inspired me to do my own research on his family. I think it’s fascinating how the “mundane” or “simple life “ of a man from poverty can be cause for reflection and inspiration.

Loved hearing it read by the author

I read both Angela’s Ashes and Tis when they were released Listening to them being right by the other just gave it a real feel of the emotion behind the words. Great audiobook.

Brilliant

Right up there with Angela’s Ashes. I was afraid I wouldn’t like it as much as his Pulitzer Prize winner, but it is just as good and gives closure to the former. Worth every second of listening. Though I’d love to read it eventually, Frank gives such life to the characters that I believe I’ll listen again in the future.
