Publisher's summary

New York Times Best Seller

Now a major motion picture directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

By day he made thousands of dollars a minute. By night he spent it as fast as he could. From the binge that sank a 170-foot motor yacht and ran up a $700,000 hotel tab, to the wife and kids waiting at home and the fast-talking, hard-partying young stockbrokers who called him king, here, in Jordan Belfort's own words, is the story of the ill-fated genius they called the Wolf of Wall Street. In the 1990s, Belfort became one of the most infamous kingpins in American finance: a brilliant, conniving stock-chopper who led his merry mob on a wild ride out of Wall Street and into a massive office on Long Island. It's an extraordinary story of greed, power, and excess no one could invent: the tale of an ordinary guy who went from hustling Italian ices to making hundreds of millions - until it all came crashing down.

Praise for The Wolf of Wall Street

“Raw and frequently hilarious.” (The New York Times)

“A rollicking tale of [Jordan Belfort’s] rise to riches as head of the infamous boiler room Stratton Oakmont...proof that there are indeed second acts in American lives.” (Forbes)

“A cross between Tom Wolfe’s The Bonfire of the Vanities and Scorsese’s GoodFellas... Belfort has the Midas touch.” (The Sunday Times [London])

“Entertaining as pulp fiction, real as a federal indictment...a hell of a read.” (Kirkus Reviews)

Wow!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, this is by far the most entertaining audio book I've listened to all year. I finished the whole thing in less than a week. I saw the movie first and loved it so was wondering what the book was all about, and the movie is pretty close to the book, but the book adds a lot more and is definitely worth a read if you liked the movie.

What other book might you compare The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition) to and why?

Ship It Holla Ballas!

What about Eric Meyers’s performance did you like?

It got better and better as the book went on.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

There are a lot of gray areas on wall street, and no matter how much money you have it wont bring you long term happiness.

Any additional comments?

If you're looking for some Pulitzer prize winner then this probably isn't the book for you, but if you're looking for one of the craziest most entertaining stories I've heard in a long time then you will enjoy this book. Also probably don't listen to this audio book with your kids or grandparents in the car.

Incredible story and Eric Meyers tells it in the same way that a friend would tell you a tale over drinks.

Reading was hard to listen to.

The female characters were given shrieking voices. I had to turn down volume every time.

compelling, yet redundant

It was a great novel, executed well by the narrator, but often repetative. Don't expect such a whirlwind like the movie, its obvious Hollywood stepped up the story to keep it fresh. That being said, Jordan Belfort is an etertaining mad man worth living vicariously through.

He's a jerk, but this was a great read

Jordan Belfort...all I can really say is, by the end of this book you will not like him; he gives an honest portrayl of life among the crazy rich and how he got away with cheating the stock market for years. He is a womanizer, someone who does not think the rules apply to him, and unlikable in pretty much every way.

To his credit, I will say this book is honest, he tells you how it was with out expecting anyone to feel sorry for his fall from the top. He un-apologetically explains his rise and his fall, and in many of the memoirs i have read people try to paint themselves in a flattering way when they have done some truly crappy things, and you won't find that here. That alone makes this book an enjoyable read.
