The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition) | [Jordan Belfort]

The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition)

By day he made thousands of dollars a minute. By night he spent it as fast as he could. From the binge that sank a 170-foot motor yacht, crashed a Gulfstream jet, and ran up a $700,000 hotel tab, to the wife and kids who waited at home and the fast-talking, hard-partying young stockbrokers who called him king, here, in Jordan Belfort's own words, is the story of the ill-fated genius they called the Wolf of Wall Street.

Publisher's Summary

Soon to be a major motion picture directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

In the 1990s, Belfort became one of the most infamous kingpins in American finance: a brilliant, conniving stock-chopper who led his merry mob on a wild ride out of Wall Street and into a massive office on Long Island. It's an extraordinary story of greed, power, and excess no one could invent: the tale of an ordinary guy who went from hustling Italian ices to making hundreds of millions - until it all came crashing down.

    "Definitely kept my attention"
What did you love best about The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition)?

I work in the finance industry and thought this would be an interesting listen. It definitely keeps your attention!

    Any additional comments?

This book is very entertaining and seems to be very honestly written....that said, it is VERY vulgar. Lots of language, sex, and filled to the brim with drugs. I knew all of those were going to be a component of the book, but it was a little bit too graphic for me.

"Outrageous and hilarious all at the same time..."
What made the experience of listening to The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition) the most enjoyable?

This story is so ridicules it can't possibly be made up.

Whats amazing is this all went down in the early 90's before wall street really went nuts.

What other book might you compare The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition) to and why?

    No one would listen.

Its another outrageous wall street story.

What about Eric Meyers’s performance did you like?

His big shot persona, his confidences and slight New York accent give a tough of authenticity to the story.

If you could give The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition) a new subtitle, what would it be?

Confessions of a high functioning sociopath...

    "So Boring"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Time well spent, because I listen to it while jogging and only while jogging. So my time is spent well exercising. Unfortunately, I bought the wrong book for listening to while jogging, because this is the most boring book I've ever had to deal with.

What was most disappointing about Jordan Belfort’s story?

    How boring it was.

What does Eric Meyers bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Very animated narration. Most interesting thing about the audio book was the narrator's voice.

Did The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition) inspire you to do anything?

I actually started jogging less when I committed to listening to the book only while jogging. I'm a cheapskate, so I plan on finishing the book before getting another one.

    Story
"Good story, just a bad dude"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it is very entertaining to listen to the life of a guy who throws money around left and right. The shenanigans that ensue with hookers, drugs, and stocks is great and keeps you listening.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Bad/angry. I hated that he really never felt sorry for screwing over so many people, and tried to play it like a happily ever after crap.

What about Eric Meyers’s performance did you like?

I thought Eric's voice was great when he was just being normal, like narrating or Jordon. However, when he try's to do female voices that is another story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yeah I laughed when Jordon was contemplating having sex with an Ethiopian hooker in Switzerland and said that see looked to clean to have aids.....right?

    Story
    "Disappointing & over-the-top self-aggrandizing"
What disappointed you about The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition)?

The story was just over-dramatic, and the protagonist's sarcasm and faux self-deprecation were intolerable. I had to turn it off.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jordan Belfort? Why or why not?

Probably not. It's not my genre.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Eric Meyers?

    Richard Poe, Holter Graham

What character would you cut from The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition)?

Whoever the main character is, and the girlfriend, and the wall street guys. Oh, wait, that's the entire ensemble.

    Any additional comments?

If you're into Grisham-type antics, and over-dramatized stories evocative of a high school boy having his 1st "experience," this is for you.

    "Unbelievable, but true"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition) to be better than the print version?

I did not read the book, only listened to it. But I liked how Eric Meyers really took on the characters and how they would sound in real life.

    "Great and Entertaining Book"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    Yes - It's very entertaining

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Jordan Belfort

What about Eric Meyers’s performance did you like?

    Great voice for this book

    Any additional comments?

Would you give a book about Adolf Hitler a bad review because Hitler was a bad guy? I see people giving this book a bad review because they think Jordan Belfort is a bad guy. I guess we should stop cautionary tales about bad people altogether. This is a great book. I really enjoyed the movie and I wanted to really delve into the details. I did not like when the movie would dismiss the details as "too hard for the viewer to understand."

I wanted to hear the details about what Belfort was doing and the book did give more detail, although I thought It could have done even more. I loved hearing the background stories about all the characters. Belfort did terrible things, that's not even in dispute. However, that doesn't mean I don't want to hear his story.

    Story
"Interesting story of extraordinary life - Too long"
What made the experience of listening to The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition) the most enjoyable?

The story itself is interesting. I love non-fiction about the lives of extraordinary / unique people living "off the wall" lives that go against the grain of society's normal ho-hum boxed-in existence. Belfort's story fits squarely into what I consider insightful fun. It's educational, entertaining, downright uniquely insane, and TRUE.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition)?

The tales of debauchery and shady business practices on an extreme level.

What about Eric Meyers’s performance did you like?

Very solid narration but nothing to write home about. I've heard better but I've heard more that are FAR worse. I had no issue with the narration at all. Well done.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Heck, no. It's too long and my only negative comment on the title. There are simply too many details strung out into these unnecessary bouts of information and writing.

    Any additional comments?

The book is too long and doesn't even cover the entire Belfort story. You have to get another insanely long audiobook called, "Catching the Wolf of Wall Street" in order to get his full story. The drawn out details of certain events slow the pace of the story to an almost unbearable crawl at times. I would recommend this title and it's next book that goes with it. If you aren't going to listen to "Catching The Wolf of Wall Street," you are cheated out of the entire story that you just spent an INSANE amount of hours listening to. To complete the entire story with the two books, you may find yourself losing interest over time which is not good. I know I did. I haven't finished the last book as I just became burnt out on the length and yammering about the same details for hours on end. You certainly will get your money's worth for how long the title is which is nice. It's a great all-around story that I can highly recommend but it's not going to be a good experience for short attention spans.
