But in February 2008, Patrick announced he had been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. Always a fighter, he refused to let the disease bring him to his knees, and his bravery inspired both his legion of fans and cancer patients everywhere.
Yet this memoir, written with wisdom and heart, recounts much more than his bout with cancer. In vivid detail, Patrick describes his Texas upbringing, his personal struggles, his rise to fame with North and South, his commercial breakthroughs in Dirty Dancing and Ghost, and the soul mate who's stood by his side through it all: his wife, writer and director Lisa Niemi.
A behind-the-scenes look at a Hollywood life and a remarkable love, this memoir is both entertainment and inspiration. Patrick and Lisa's marriage was a journey of two lives intertwined and lived as one--throughout their years in Hollywood and at home on their working ranch outside Los Angeles, and culminating in the hope and wisdom they've imparted to all who know and knew them.
This book will open the door for families, individuals, and husbands and wives to grow, bond, and discover entirely new levels of love and sharing, proving that life shouldn't be lived as a series of endings, but rather as the beginning of greater strength and love.

I am a retired Court Reporter and I LOVE books. All kinds of books but my favorites are mysteries and period books. I like civil war books and some biographies.
Although heartbreakingly sad, it was well done and uplifting. He has always been one of my favortie actors. He is such an example to everyone. He didn't get the poor little me even though he had every reason to. GOD BLESS HIM AND HIS LOVELY WIFE.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Had a round trip 10 hour drive and it sure made the time fly! Very entertaining with details on all the ups and downs of first having to give up his first love, dancing, and then persevering to make it in Hollywood. He was a very humble man with insecurities like all of us that endured and shaped his life right up to his too early exit. Most enjoyable and tear jerking was the story of his life long love affair with Lisa Niemi. Their love endured 34 years or so; an eternity in Hollywood. They were very open in discussing their ups, downs, trials and tribulations, that all marriages face, but their mutual respect and love always endured. They told us readers many things that were none of our business. I came away with respect and admiration for them both. Also wished the book had been twice as long!
This audiobook was incredible! Patrick Swayze was an incredible man, and to have him tell his story in his own voice was awesome. I loved him, loved the audiobook! I highly recommend it.
Wife with 32+ years experience. Mother, Grandmother. My family & I own a turtle farm in NW Alabama. I'm more blessed than I deserve!
I have always been a fan of Swayze's work. I expected to enjoy hearing about his life, but I had no idea how much there was to his talent and character beyond the man we saw onscreen! I LOVED THIS BOOK and having Patrick & Lisa read the audio just added to it!
I enjoyed hearing Patrick again and sharing in his life's highs and lows. I always enjoyed his dancing and acting and this made me feel that he was still with us. I can understand Lisa's loss as I too have lost my husband at a young age and my heart aches for him still.
This was a very enjoyable listen. It's refreshing to hear the life story of a Hollywood star who wasn't a fruitcake. Swayze was a really good person, one helluva hard worker, and much more talented than most people realize. Although I always liked him, I came to gain a greater respect for the man he was. May his good name live on forever.
I really enjoyed "The Time of My Life" already being a Patrick Swayze fan. Listening to how he developed the characters in the movies I love was a lot of fun. I did not realize however, his inner struggles with "voices" he calls them constantly belittling every accomplishment he acheived. How he overcame obstacles is encouraging and a life lesson to anyone who has had to give up one dream for another.
I'm so glad I signed up on Audible just to get this audiobook. Not only was it a free deal from the tv offer, but I got to hear Patrick's voice telling his life story. I feel now I know more about who he was better than could've ever been possible otherwise. I only wish that it would've covered the entire book, and that Patrick would've gotten to find out how his story has helped to inspire his fans. Writing this book with Lisa, and then recording it, shows that he didn't let the last twenty months of his life go to waste or self-pity. This fact helps ease the anger and sadness of the fact that he's gone.
An interesting read for fans of Swayze interested in a behind-the-scenes look at his career and struggles with cancer.
Made me nostalgic (for my younger years)
I grew up loving Patrick Swayze (and Dirty Dancing) but knowing nothing about him or his life. I purchased this audiobook because I wanted to learn something about this person who I thought walked on water when I was a teenager and young adult. I wasn't disappointed in the listen. I liked that he was the narrator, and when necessary his wife read too. Swayze has a nice voice and it certainly felt more authentic hearing it directly from them. There were parts when I thought he was a bit full of himself, but it is an autobiography. I guess he's aloud to be full of himself. Overall I was satisfied with this purchase and glad I listened to it.
