Critic reviews

"Magnificent...a sweeping narrative of the outward man and a shrewd examination of his character....It is one of those rare works that is both definitive for the period it covers and fascinating to read for sheer entertainment. There should be a queue awaiting the next volume." ( The New York Times Book Review)

A little bit too nationalistic but still fun!

Super long but we'll worth it... I want to listen to the next one but... So much to listen to!

Wonderful book about an amazing man and great Pres

Before reading this book I had great admiration for President Roosevelt from the little information I already knew. This book provides great detail about this amazing man. I now respect and admire him even more as president than I did before.

Excellent story and narration

This is an enjoyable detailed experience from start to finish. I would have liked it to go through his presidency.

Window into the Early Life

I liked this book because it is well written. It gives a detailed portrait of the formative years of T.R. And goes into great detail. Edmund Morris researched his topic exceedingly well and writes in a way that transports you to the events he is describing.

The Performance is not my favorite on Audible but it gets the job done well.

Beautifully written

Extremely thorough. No details were left out. Despite the fact that the writing about Roosevelt’s time in government tended to be a bit dry, there remained a brilliant representation of the vigor and energy of Theodore Roosevelt throughout this masterpiece.

Rising of TR

Very well done overall. Points were slow moving and soooo detailed. Very enjoyable though and felt like I got to know the man.

Masterfully Composed and Stirringly Orated

As an admirer of T. R., I sought to enrich my limited education into both the man and his deeds.

Edmund Morris, as read by Deakins, constructs an emotionally compelling chronicle of Roosevelt’s life from childhood to the moment Mister Roosevelt becomes Mister President.

Morris masterfully blends detail-rich historical retellings, primary source journal extracts, and character-enhancing anecdotes to convey the complex nature of Roosevelt as a human person, as well as a person of influence.

Worthy of reading by admirers of Roosevelt and aspiring biographers alike.

Fantastic

From start to finish an absolute masterpiece. The author weaves the narrative of Roosevelt's early life into a vivid and captivating tapestry. Morris manages to capture the essence of one of the most fascinating men in the American pantheon. Deakins' narration is perhaps one of the most natural and compelling I've personally heard on Audible. Highly recommend.
