Critic reviews

"Magnificent...a sweeping narrative of the outward man and a shrewd examination of his character....It is one of those rare works that is both definitive for the period it covers and fascinating to read for sheer entertainment. There should be a queue awaiting the next volume." ( The New York Times Book Review)

Absolutely amazing book

Theodore Roosevelt is absolutely fascinating and the writing of this biography is superb. I can definitely see why it won a Pulitzer. I just listened to a 25 hour book and I can’t wait to read the other two.

A captivating biography of a fascinating man

I was skeptical that there would be enough flavor and content to keep this titanic Teddy tome fresh all the way through, but I was wrong. TR's story is so fascinating, and brought to life so vividly by Morris's writing, that I couldn't help devouring the entire thing as quickly as possible. It is, without question, the best biography I've ever read. I can't wait to jump into the next two entries.

I will also note that the narrator was outstanding and did a wonderful job of weaving color into an already colorful text.

Well written, and it's about Teddy... enough said.

Theodore Roosevelt is one of the most extraordinary people in history in my opinion, and there is MUCH to be gained from knowing his life story, the circumstances and events that molded him into who he is and his unique ways of thinking that ultimately led him to be one of the most powerful and respected men in the world.

The biography is fascinating from start to finish, and I bookmarked a LOT of the one-liners and golden nuggets of knowledge that such a close look at Mr. Roosevelt's life has to offer, and have changed my own way of thinking about others and the world around me as a result - with very positive impact.

Mr. Morris obviously has gift for creating fun to listen to biographies that are more like stories, and Mr. Deakins did a great job on the narration. I'm sure I'll be referring back to this audiobook frequently to ask myself "What would Teddy do?" ;-)

Fascinating! Mark

I was extremely pleased with the story and performance. My favorite parts were all the stories of his travels especially to the Wild West. Roosevelt is definitely one of my favorite characters in history

It was a great listen

Full of facts and funny anecdotes of this amazing man. There were a few parts that were above my head politically and dragged a little but as a whole it was amazing. I can't wait to listen to the sequel.

It's a great story, and the narration is great as well. I forgot there was a narrator; it felt like the author speaking.

Great book, great performance.

The book bounds from one unbelievable true story to the next. Teddy's story is both inspiring and entertaining.

Mark Deakins is an excellent narrator, proving a spot-on impression of Teddy's voice throughout.

A little bit too nationalistic but still fun!

Super long but we'll worth it... I want to listen to the next one but... So much to listen to!
