Publisher's Summary

Here is the private and most intimate correspondence of one of America's most influential and incisive journalists - Hunter S.Thompson. In letters to a who's who of luminaries, from Norman Mailer toCharles Kuralt, Tom Wolfe to Lyndon Johnson, William Styron to Joan Baez - not to mention his mother, the NRA, and a chain of newspaper editors - Thompson vividly catches the tenor of the times in 1960s America and channels it all through hisown razor-sharp perspective.

Passionate in their admiration, merciless in their scorn, and never anything less than fascinating, the dispatches of The Proud Highway offer an unprecedentedand penetrating gaze into the evolution of the most outrageous raconteur/provocateur ever to assault a typewriter.

    Story
"a really good way to get to know hunter"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes, i would recommend this audiobook to anyone who is interested in hunter s thompson, as it is the closest thing i have read to an autobiography by hunter

What other book might you compare The Proud Highway to and why?

it is similar to the fear and loathing at the rolling stone. this book shows a different less drug addled younger hunter

What does Malcolm Hillgartner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

he does a great job of expressing emotions that may not be picked up when reading text

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

the story of a an unemployable writer

    Any additional comments?

this was a great read for someone like myself who has been a long time hunter fan. i wish i had read this book before many of his other works, as it sheds a lot of light on where he comes from, what he is about, and who he is
