Publisher's Summary

It takes a tough mind-set to be a successful sniper, to be able to dig in for days on your own as you wait for your target, to stay calm on a battlefield when you yourself have become the target the enemy most wants to take out. Craig Harrison has what it takes, and in November 2009 in Afghanistan, under intense pressure, he saved the lives of his comrades with the longest confirmed sniper kill - 2,475 metres, the length of 25 football pitches.

In this unflinching autobiography, Craig catapults us into the heat of the action as he describes his active service in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan and gives heart-stopping accounts of his sniper ops as he fought for his life on the rooftops of Basra and the barren hills of Helmand province. Craig was blown up by an IED in Afghanistan and left battling severe PTSD. After his identity was revealed in the press, he also had to cope with al-Qaeda threats against him and his family. For Craig, the price of heroism has been devastatingly high.

    "Truly inspiring!"

This book is truly inspiring, a real life view of what our armed forces deal with week in week out. The people at home they protect are not worthy! A true hero!

    Story
"Interesting glimpse into the troubled mind"

This is a good look into the mind of a sniper and his demons, its quite gritty and without compliments to how troubled young people end up dealing with their issues after a long serving career in the military

    Story
    "Outstanding book"
If you could sum up The Longest Kill in three words, what would they be?

    Gripping, shocking, hilarious

What did you like best about this story?

This was the honest account from a dedicated soldier who puts everything on the line for his country. He tells it as it is, the horrors and truly shocking situations the Armed Forces find themselves and without satisfactory support from the MoD.

What does Joe Jameson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The narration was excellent setting the mood for some very black dangerous situations and also for some utterly hilarious take on some of these.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The book is a rollercoaster of emotions and utterly compelling. Passion, pain, horror and hilarity. The relentless pressure pushing Craig to breaking point, being blown up and receiving second-rate medical treatment. The post-traumatic stress, lack of support and ultimately a lack of recognition for a dedicated and highly effective career in the military protecting this country.

I was and am utterly appalled at the treatment that Craig received from some sections of our society on his return. He should be hailed a hero.

    Any additional comments?

I have long been a fan of Andy McNab and Chris Ryan but this book knocks all there is into a cocked hat. No contest.I hope that Craig Harrison has found the writing of this cathartic and his health is significantly better. Best wishes to you Craig and Tanya.
