This is the worse audio recording I have ever heard from Audible. The narrator sounds as if she is reading underwater or, perhaps, like one of those people at a party who gets hold of a helium balloon. Maybe they recorded it at the wrong speed or something.
This is a classic biography of Dickens. Because it is such a long book, I decided to make the best use of my time and listen to it on audiobook. I couldn't stand more than a couple of hours. I guess I'll have to go back to the paper version.
If you are even considering this audiobook, be sure to listen to the sample first.
Former Prosecutor, Acting Magistrate (Western Cape) & Head of Training of Prosecutors (Justice College, Pretoria)— Republic of South Africa
The recording quality of this book is as poor as that of a worn-out 4 track tape of yore. I ran a random check on it by listening to samples from all of the 5 parts it consists of, but this product is not worth the salt of the other Audible.com recordings in my library—and I do have a good many of them. In an attempt to get a handle on its narration, I had to forgo concentrating on its contents and I eventually sopped listening. Therefore, as for giving a helpful review on the merits of its contents, suffice it to say that this is well-nigh impossible.
This is actually a pseudo biography, a novelization of Dickens' life. The audio quality is so poor, listening is a chore. I gave up after an hour. Very disappointed.
