America, in so many ways, has forgotten: Its roots, its purpose, its identity - all have become shrouded behind a veil of political correctness bent on twisting the nation’s founding, and its founders, to fit within a misshapen modern mold. The time has come to remember again.
In The Jefferson Lies, prominent historian David Barton sets out to correct the distorted image of once-beloved founding father Thomas Jefferson. To do so, Barton tackles seven myths head-on, including:
Through Jefferson’s own words and the eyewitness testimony of contemporaries, Barton repaints a portrait of the man from Monticello as a visionary, an innovator, a man who revered Jesus, a classical Renaissance man - and a man whose pioneering stand for liberty and God-given inalienable rights fostered a better world for this nation and its posterity. For America, the time to remember these truths again is now.

Barton used primary sources to back up his assertions. Upon further research of those sources- Barton nailed it. His critics both inside and outside of Amazon do not debunk this well foot-noted and accurate work. Read it yourself. If you have the time, research it yourself. In my opinion, you will come to one conclusion concerning Thomas Jefferson - He was indeed a brilliant Christian President. And another conclusions concerning the critics of this book - they are either ignorant of history, or willfully ignorant of primary source history.
In conclusion, some time during the last half of the past century, the history of Thomas Jefferson was stolen. Stolen, in my opinion, by "academicians" who during a more genteel time would have been labeled what the are - charlatans.
Correcting progressive revisionist history, David Barton brings the truth of our founders life to light!
I am a Christian young man who loves to listen to audiobooks at work.
I liked how he quoted from the source documents. He seemed to understand what modern historians are doing wrong. He even recommended certain authors, I have rarely seen that.
I liked how he clarified the Sally Cummings controversy. I now have no reservations when I tel people that Jefferson was my favorite U.S. President
Freedom and Truth survive
This was my first exposure to the controversial historian, David Barton, I was very impressed by him and wish that Audible had more of his books for sale.
Amazing the facts that are censored from our text books, after reading the amazing details in this book it makes you understand how great the threat is to our future when we allow social engineers to write our text books
How well researched it was with source documentation noted. This was an excellent and captivating story. I hesitated to get it, but am very glad that I did. So much of what I thought about Jefferson has been proved incorrect.
Reader of the book was not my favorite. It wasn't bad, just not great but that is probably more of a personal preference because there was nothing I could point to that was wrong with the reading.
No, but it totally kept my interest. I actually finished the book much faster than others.
I have always been a Jefferson fan and have read much about him. Barton does a superb job of refuting the myths and lies the public chooses to believe after so many years. The Founding Fathers were certainly not perfect men but clearly Jefferson has been slandered. Thanks for publishing this work. Narration is good.
One can not argue with original sourcing, can't hide truths either. Very revealing. Want the truth get this book.
For years, Jefferson was my least favorite of the well-known founding fathers. Now I know he is the least understood. I went in to this book as a skeptic and came out with Jefferson as one of my favorites in American history.
This book turned everything I'd ever learned about Jefferson up-side down. David Barton uses primary sources and puts Jefferson's words in context so we clearly see the lies we've been taught for decades. This book has opened my eyes to the study of history like no other -- and I read TONS of history. I'll never look at it the same way again. What book with Barton write next? I look forward to it.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in history for two reasons; the subject matter is covered very thoroughly using original document citations to back up his claims, and Mr. Barton clearly explains how these lies have been propagated and what to look for in other history books in order to evaluate their accuracy.
