Publisher's Summary

The Game recounts the incredible adventures of the everyday man who transforms himself from a shy, awkward writer into the quick-witted, smooth-talking Style, a character irresistible to women. But just when life is better than he could have ever dreamed (he uses his techniques on Britney Spears, receives life coaching from Tom Cruise, moves into a mansion with Courtney Love, and is officially voted the World's Number One Pickup Artist), he falls head over heels for a woman who can beat him at his own game.

Jaw-dropping and hilarious, The Game reveals the naked truth about sex, love, and relationships - and getting exactly what you want.

    "Weird, sad, but interesting"
    Any additional comments?

I decided to listen to this book because I wanted to find out what the Pick Up Artist community is all about, why it exists and what they do. I find the whole PUA culture weird, disturbing and rather tragic, but I found this book very interesting and compelling.

It doesn't say good things about our society that the PUA community is so large and that guys feel this is the best, or only, way to meet women. I understand that part of the process if to make men feel more confident in themselves and therefore make them happier and more attractive. This seems like the positive part of the process, but they way they go about it and their attitudes towards women are just WEIRD. It seemed like they saw women as another species who have to be tricked and manipulated, or even a collectible card game where you try and get the special edition card that the other guys covet the most. It didn't seem like they were getting to know women or picking up girls they were personally interested in, but trying to score the 'prizes' they thought would most impress other men.

I don't think this is a book to listen to if you want to learn the PUA techniques, but it's very entertaining if you want to find out about the culture and what they were up to at the time this was written (apparently things have changed and the movement has split into competitive factions all trying to cash in on some mens inability to talk to women).Overall, although I enjoyed the craziness of the car-crash being played out in the book, it made me feel pretty sad about the state of male/female relationships, and I had to keep reminding myself that these guys are in the minority. The narration is good and the pace of the book is good too.

I found this book very entertaining. It was easy to listen and get into this novel, and not once did it lose my attention.

A great and interesting story. A entertaining book with some good pick up tips. It's not a "educational" book, but it was good reading.

"A noughtys hit I missed and now caught up."

a load of nonsense made entertaining. a strange premise which just about worked. I wouldn't recommend but when this first came out I was in my later teens and was forever being mentioned in the lad mags as a kind of dark art guide to bedding whoever you want. glad I satisfied curiosity but all just a bit far fetched to be believed and had , for me, a now bygone attitude for women that I have since grown out of and left behind.

"if you like this sort of thing"

i got this book because of all the hype. which is why maybe iam so disappointed. as it just poor. its just a story about him and this group of men, who want to have sex with girls. trying to make the process mystical and special. it would be funny until you reailize this is real. its kind of sad. i was into this when i was like 12 years old.
iam being hard, if you want like a comic sort of book, about chasing women, without much jokes, then get it. but if you want something deeper, don't waste your credit.

    "The hero's journey of Pick-up"

This is a riveting account of one man's journey from average guy to pick-up artist (pua). It's told in a very engaging and accessible way. Strauss subtly describes the power of the new techniques he's learned as well as the unintended consequences of mastering these techniques.

"I've never binged on an audio book before"

I didn't quite know what I was getting in to when I got this. I expected a "how to" guide with anecdotal stories of picking up women. What I got was probably the best true story I've ever heard and a journey along side the incredible Neil strauss. Normally if I listen to something I do an hour at a time because I end up falling asleep, in this case I found myself trying to set aside as many hours as I could to just sit and listen to what this guy has experienced. Gutted it's ended... Probably going to start it again tomorrow.

    "Meh"

Story was okay, a bit Hollywood for me. The contents of picking up girls I fully believe are real.

However, what really didn't like about this book was the narration. I originally got excited when I saw the author was the narrator because I thought he would emphasis the bits he thought needed to be, provide an emotional tone where needed, ect. But there was none of that. It was read in almost a monotone voice that of a university lecturer, which sucked.

The story overall was okay at best. It sounded interesting and I'm all honesty would have loved to live a life like this. But the narration really bought it down for me.

"Is this a bad comedy, written by a fantasist?"
Would you try another book written by Neil Strauss or narrated by Neil Strauss?

No, this book was one of the worst I have ever heard

What could Neil Strauss have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

he could have written something that was not pure fantasy

How did the narrator detract from the book?

voice is annoying and seems like the narrator is trying to hard

What character would you cut from The Game?

    all of them

    Any additional comments?

this book is just awful, written by a geek who thinks he is the king of pickup artists living in a squalid mansion in the hollywood hills.. although I suspect the reality is more "living in his mothers basement looking for internet porn"

"Algebra, Did you need it? This You DO!"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Game to be better than the print version?

Audio version is so much better than the book. With Neil Strauss himself narrating the book, I had to listen to this. His actual experience of the events in the tale really accented the stories.I can hear the emotion in Strauss' voice as he's reading the chapters, or is that my own imagination, regardless he made me really enjoy the story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Obviously my favourite character was the main protagonist himself. From AFC to MPUA!

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Everything you ever knew about women is about to be turned on it's head!

I really enjoyed it, very fascinating material. Would listen to again. Only problem I had was at certain parts Neil Strauss gets caught up in the words as if he's reliving it.
